That is the reality of what happened yesterday. Find a way to win it, and UT is 3-1 leaving Sept, regardless of how bad it could get next week in the swamp....season still intact going into October.

Now? The axle is already rattling, particularly with the number of young players and a new coaching staff, and I expect the Gators to absolutely beat the will and spirit out of this team next Saturday. They will show no mercy, and the result will be a fracturing that will not be able to be recovered from.

At 2-2 after Ohio, I'm not sure these Vols will win a single game on the October slate. Auburn looks much-improved offensively, Georgia is still a better team, Bama will throttle for the 3rd straight year, and Carolina is certainly winnable, but with 4 or 5 losses already coming in? Doubtful.

Those who were proclaiming 8 or 9 wins after last week were blinded. This team is still woefully under-talented at key spots, and lacks a leader or identity on offense. At this point, they will be lucky to make a bowl game, and folks need to get that through their heads, or it will get ugly with the criticism. 5-7 looks very likely, and the focus should be on the future.

If UCLA is the key game of the season, then we must be in the PAC-10. Florida and the rest of the SEC is what we have to worry about each year, no matter the OOC results we have.

I disagree. Florida is, and always has been, the most important game of the season. If Kiffin and UT can win that game, it does so much for the program and the season.

Just because UT is a big underdog doesn't mean that it isn't important.

One of the most accurate posts seen here in several weeks. As a whole, THE CUPBOARD IS EMPTY. We must have patience

I understand what you are saying. Florida is the big game but, yes, the UCLA game was key as to how the season would unfold. You are right.

True, but each and every one of those SEC teams we play will be better than the sorry team that beat us yesterday. Either way, it's a long season, and all we can hope for is the team to get a little better each week. If they can do that, they'll get some wins along the way.

I see many continue to be blinded. This aint the 90s, much less the Zook era. Tennessee had no chance to beat Florida going into this season, nor to win the East. Emotions aside, there is no sense in continuing to demand it is the key game of THIS season. Stubbornly continuing to hold on to that will only lead to this fanbase falling apart again. Accept reality. UCLA and Auburn were the two real winnable games early-on, and UCLA at home in game 2 was the key to the equation in 09. So much for that....and 2009.

Florida will win by 40, at least.

You guys are missing Duckhook's point.

I agree, this was the make or break game for us.

Anyone saying UF is the make or break game isn't dealing with reality. We have NO chance to beat UF. None.

If we could have beaten UCLA, lost to UF, and beaten Ohio, we are 3-1, and still in the realm of a possible decent year.

Now, the finger pointing has started with this monumental loss, and will get worse when we are beaten to within an inch of our lives at Gainesville.

We may not be able to recover and beat Ohio, so now from 3-1 we are staring 1-3 in the face.

What scares me is we could be worse next year on offense with no offensive line

we loose A lot of key guys next year ... i've said it all along we'll have a better year this year then next ... i'll review the lane train after the 2011 season if i'm still around

The cupboards should have never been allowed to get this bare. This is the results of giving a coach too much control of your program and having a businessman as AD. I don't care what anyone here says, Dickey would have never allowed this to get to this point. He was a football fan something the AD should be required to be at a university that makes its money off the football program.

I've really only seen one team that actually scares me on defense and that's Florida. The rest of the SEC seems to be down in that respect this season. UCLA's defense looked pretty darn good yesterday, but we do have an inept QB.

Maybe we should just go ahead and forfeit the rest of the games this season since we have no chance.I mean the key game of the season has already been played so what do we have left to play for?And while we're at it does anyone know of a good lawyer they could recommend?I printed up thousands of t-shirts and hats that said 'Tennessee Vols 14-0 National Champions 2009' I'm sure there is some way that I could get Kiffin to pay for these since he blinded me into thinking we would dominate this year.Somebody should have to pay.

Jonathan Crompton has spent his career making even mediocre defenses look great.

I guess this is where I get off the train. Not the Lane train but the VN train. This site is so full of fair weather fans it's rediculous. We have some talent out there. It's not like we completely got destroyed. If we could have made that 2 yards at the end, everybody would be jumping up and down, instead you guys are all ready to throw blame around. It's just one game, and a OOC game at that. We might not have the best season this year but a lot of 1st year HCs don't have a great first year. Chill out, stay positive because you know players and coaches read this sh$t you guys write on here. I know I would. And this sounds like a bunch of fans ready to trade in their colors for some crimson or blue and orange. I'm still a Vol this morning and I still think my team has a good chance at doing well this year. Maybe not 11-1 or 10-2 but better than last year's record. Stand up with your team not against them. GO VOLS!!

This game was huge. You all can say it was only the second game of the year or FL is more important. But you need to win the ones you are favored in and at home to top that. If we are going to turn this around. Games like this are the ones you have to have.

The reality is we have no chance to beat Fl or Bama. Is UCLA better than Vandy, Kentucky, SC, Auburn, Ol'miss, UGA? I don't think they are. This season could easly fall apart after that loss. You have to find a way to win it. We didn't. I look for more of the same. Sad.

I had "almost" bought into this offense with Crompton. But he just doesn't have it upstairs to play D1. But it isn't that he just doesn't make plays he costs us games.

I think at this juncture in the rebuilding of the Vols, it is as important to play well, even if in a losing cause. Not getting blown out by a highly talented gator team that has been all but handed the championship trophy by everyone that follows the game will do wonders for this team. Nobody expects us to win... nobody. If we show up.. and play the game that we might be capable of... who knows. What I find amazing is that the gators have an incredibly weak (and apparently it doesn't matter) schedule this year.. If we play well, maybe the pollsters will take notice of that weak schedule and drop the gators... OK.. a guy can dream can't he. But who in the SEC east really has a chance to beat them? That takes them to the SEC championship game. Bama? They have the best chance. Other than that? I think I am rapidly becoming a Pete Carrol fan though.

Yeah, just take a good, hard look around especially you Foolmerites. If you fools had got on board with the rest of us we would not be this bad off. No, you were so darn blind loyal to the head dragon of The Good Ole Boys Club you couln't see the ground we were standing on had crumbled underneath our feet years ago.

The Foolmerite supporters are just as responsible for the shape we are in as The Good Ole Boys Club, itself. Kiffen pay for this? No, we have been taken down by Foolmer and his supporters.

Look dumbass, it was a sarcastic response to the other dumbass who started this thread. If you can't figure out when someone is joking or not I feel sorry for you.You can't even get the head coach's name right so I guess I shouldn't expect much from you.

No one will drop the gators in the rankings if they kill everyone they play. And based on the first two weeks of the season, there isn't a lot of competition on the regular season schedule to indicate that UF will have a lot of close games.

And who do you rank above the Gators? Texas was only beating Wyoming 13-10 at half. USC? QB looks shaky to me. PSU? Their schedule is even weaker.

No. I think the gators will have a firm grasp on #1 as long as they don't lose a game. (obviously)

Wow, how far has this fanbase fallen when the goal becomes to not get beaten too bad so that the Gators might fall from their #1 spot? Things are a mess.

Wait a second. Are you suggesting we have a fan base that would be happy with 208 total yards of offense and QB that completed 50% of his passes for all of 93yds, 0td and 3 picks? How about out backs averaging less than 3.5ypc?

Look, reality isn't "fair weather" and we don't have a QB that is going to win any real football game this season, just like last. This made all the more gut wrenching since we'll be losing those games with one of the best D's in the nation, just like last season.

This isn't about "fair weather", it's about familiarity. We've seen this before. A new QB will come and things will get better but c'mon man. You telling me next season isn't already looking like a loooong way off?
