The Vols can beat Missouri

Lock gets alot of attention, but he never has great games vs Tennessee

Last 2 years we absolutely pounded UT on the ground, for over 400 yards both times. If Tennessee stops the run then Tennessee likely wins. Give up 300 on the ground and Missouri rolls

So refreshing to see an opposing fan here who knows what they're talking about. Could you maybe give lessons to all of the UK homers who come here, and half of the UF fans? I'd really appreciate it.

Lock scares me. The Mizzou offense, if it's on, can simply outscore anything UT can put on the board. Likewise, if UT cannot establish the run game, then the Mizzou defense makes it easy for the Mizzou offense.

UT needs it's best game of the season here to win. Including turnovers and special teams plays. If Mizzou gets into a rhythm, we're in trouble.

UT needs to spend most of the game in the Mizzou backfield on defense, and the Mizzou secondary on offense. Win turnovers, and make at least one big ST play. Do that, and UT wins. Don't, and the Vandy game is a play-in for bowl eligibility.

Go Vols.

Delusional, did you not see the Florida game? The UTEP game? The Charlotte game? They got lucky at Auburn and with Kentucky, both were anomalies. We gonna get an Epic curb stomping Saturday. And next Saturday too, Vandy owns Tennessee.
Blue font not working???

I had to back peddle to this, so I could say..Bravo! It’s been entertaining.

They will have to play BETTER than they did against KY....

Mizzou is much more dangerous/explosive on offense than KY.....

Drew Lock's arm and their receivers can stretch the field.....

KY had #26...and that's all they had....

GO VOLS!

They got a pretty good linebacker

Next to Tua at Alabama, Lock is the best passing QB on our schedule, and outside of two games, Alabama and Kentucky, Missouri hasn't scored less than 33 points.

We'll need season-high scoring and offensive play to beat them.

Will Grier: “BeardedVol, you’re right. Lock is definitely the 2nd best passing QB you’ve faced besides Tua”

You are either as pessimistic as they come. Or, you are looking for reactions and attention. Either way, that remark is crazy. Missouri is much more talented on O than UK. But, they are much less talented on D than UK and UT when UT has primarily an injury free D. As long as UT brings it at the line of scrimmage like they did vs AU and UK, VOLS WIN!!! Although, could be a big IF. UT has been very inconsistent for several years. I hope UT has turned the corner for good. Vandy has won 4 of 6. But, Vandy DOES NOT OWN UT. UT still owns Vandy and will make it right again this year or next and many years to follow for a long time again!!!

Mizzou is beatable, yes. But I wouldn't assume that because the Vols decisively beat KY that MO will be in any way the same. KY has a very one dimensional offense. Stop Snell and you shut down KY. MO presents the same match up problems that West Virginia gave us. Of the remaining two games, MO will be by far the toughest.

I completely agree. It will be a tougher challenge for us defensively than Kentucky. That being said, if we can give JG time like we did against Kentucky then we will have a legit shot.

TJ Moe (sp) was on The Nation last night and talked about how horrible Mizzou’s pass defense is. Said their secondary is awful. If true, we should be able to score with Calloway, Jennings and Ty. I think we win by 10.

Statistically, yes, they’re about 119th out of 130 FBS team when it comes to pass defense.

Surprisingly, they’re around 32nd when it comes to rushing defense, though.

I’m not sure how much you’ve watched Missouri this season...that’s not really the way to go about attacking their defense.

May be but the best way to beat Mizzou is to keep Lock off the field as much as possible. Controlling the clock is crucial.

I understand, though I was not trying to fault the idea of clock control.

Missouri’s pass defense is 119th out of the 130 FBS college teams in the country (putting them with teams like Purdue, Wake Forest, San Jose St, and Tulane).

Their rush defense falls somewhere in the 30s (I believe 32nd as far as least yards allowed per game).

Unless the concern is about UT being able to consistently pass the ball on offense, it seems like one of those is a much bigger (and better) point of attack than the other.

Our front seven isn't bad....our CB and FS/SS are pretty weak. We have ran the ball well all year I expect that to continue to a degree this Sat. if so then it will put a ton of pressure on The Vol's to stop us from scoring. Although we do tend to have a lot of FIPS on offense and defense to shoot ourselves in the foot.

Roughly 280P/200R YPG, 37.5 PPG. Hence, we have to get into the Mizzou backfield to stop the run (first), then hopefully get some pressure on Lock.

On defense, they're not that good against the pass, but they are against the run. So, we need to spend time in their secondary (with Guarantano and the receivers). That part came later in my post. But sooner or later, we're going to have to find a way to keep that front 7 honest. Thus my comment on the running game.

As for turnovers and ST play, that's always going to be a key to winning a game like this one.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see 24 points winning this one if we can't contain the Mizzou offense.

Go Vols.
