The Vols are in playoff contention midway through the season

I think the majority of posters on this board seem to have higher expectations. Yes, we have loads of talent, but let’s not forget Nico is still very young and inexperienced, only playing 7 full games as a college QB. I anticipate 9 wins, with 2025 being a true year we could see the playoffs. If we sneak in this year, great, then we are ahead of schedule

Good post and good point (s). Some of us remember Peyton’s sophomore year and how good he was in only his second year. That may be where some of this is coming from with Nico.

I’m not saying Nico is a Heisman contender. I wouldn’t even say he’s an above average SEC QB at this point, but that doesn’t change the fact that we’re 5-1 and still in the hunt.

You’re giving Nico a massive cushion. The fact is he should be playing better. He’s just missing open guys and standing like a statue in the pocket. It really sucks considering how much he’s making

A loss next week pretty much ends contention since this team isn't beating Georgia on the road. And even if we do win i don't trust this team not to blow it with a clear path like they did against Arkansas. Hope they prove me wrong.

He is missing throws but he's not sitting in the pocket like you claim. Everytime he rolls out they get called for holding

Worried about the injuries for next week. Looked like we had several
key players go out. Need all hands on deck for Bama.

Please stop talking about us and the playoffs. Is it possible yes, but I don’t feel good about ANY SEC game remaining with how bad we look on offense right now. I also think our secondary has a lot of holes as well

There are about 40 other teams in the same position. Come back to this post in about four weeks.
Agree. Many teams flawed. If you told me preseason that we'd have one loss going into Bama, I'd feel pretty good about it. Who knew Vandy would be legit...bad thing is, there are four more games we could take L's on. If we split, and finish 9-3, that's about the best we can hope for, and be somewhat happy about. But, all goals are still achievable, so that's a pretty good thing.

Our offensive woes do not begin and end with the QB. With the possible exception of the RB position, not one other position group has graded out well the last 2-1/2 games. You could hear it in Huepel's voice last night at the presser. Despite the win, he sounded utterly defeated and he said everything short of "we suck on offense". Yes, some of it is on Nico, but our problems on offense are across the board, starting with the OC and the OL coach.
