I chatted briefly with him on FB one day, great guy to talk with and bleeds orange. Glad Dooley founded this program.

This idea was gold, solid gold. Great move on Dooley's part in founding the VFL program.

Honestly, when VFL was first announced, I thought the "Vol for Life" concept around the program was kinda cheesy - even though I liked the idea of giving the players resources for character education, etc. I'm glad to see that I was wrong and that it's going to be a success with our players and recruits.

I think we are going to see a lot of these type programs popping up soon.

Its been an incredible calling card for us.

We are lucky to have Lott. The VFL program has seemed to help a ton in recruiting.

I think it helps on two ends...I think it really puts the parents at ease and the kids love the idea of this being a lifelong commitment and not a 4 year commitment.

Agreed. I'm sure many of the prospect's parents coming in are aware of UT football's recent track record with the law. I'm sure the VFL program attempts to answer questions about these incidents to the parents and ease their concerns over these issues. It is all about making the parents feel comfortable about where their kids are going to spend their college years.

I felt the exact same way and I thought it would be a dismal failure. I am glad I was wrong

The VFL program is most likely going to be the reason that Mickey Johnson will sign with us...unless he knows that we are getting Wright AND Jernigan (if that somehow does happen). He made some comments in one of his quotes that makes him sound like he is a high-character guy. He also said that he wants to help younger kids coming up in the program as he gets more experience and seniority. Statements such as these fit right into the VFL program. Just thinking out loud...I don't think that we land him if we land Wright and Jernigan though.

VFL is the best thing CDD has brought to the Hill to date. I think it's only a glimpse of things to come for the Vols football program. It will take some time to get past some of the negative things that have happened in recent years, but we'll get there. This is definitely a great step toward that. As many have said, the parents will eat this up as well. And he chose an awesome guy to head it up.

GBO!!!!!

Yeah, this seemed to me to be more of a response or counter to the negative press swirling around the program when CDD took over initially. I truly anticipated that it would end up being just a smokescreen for PR purposes. I am so happy to see that CDD and Co. weren't just playing a game with this concept and have actually created a system to keep ex-Vols involved with the program and to provide support for all Vol athletes.

I especially would love to see this program used to prepare the NFL-bound players for the realities that come with that success. I really believe many of these guys need to learn how to manage their money when/if they do make it, and to manage their lives after football if they do not make it.
