The VN workout thread!

when I started back to the gym I done most of my "running" on an eliptical. really seemed to get my heart rate up and is basically zero impact on your joints.

What is the mandatory recuperation time to give your body time to heal?I've heard 5 days and some say as little as 2.I've heard it's better to just workout 1 body part a week,as in chest 1 day, triceps and biceps 1 day, back and shoulders 1 day and so on. I've been working out (free weights) for the past 2 months.I use to work out all the time but that was years ago.I was never taught about allowing the body to heal,so,I have been hitting it hard everyday,Monday(upper)Tuesday(lower)and so on,six days a week with at least an hour of cardio to boot(still working on getting the nutrition thing going).

I would like to hear some opinions on if I'm doing too much.If you only do 1 body part a week, how long will it take to start showing some definition?I don't need any advice on how to workout, just ideas on how often to workout.

I lift each body part once a wk. say you workout chest on monday, you need to allow 24-48 hours of rest before lifting chest again.

that's why i quit running and started doing p90x cardio and plyo

^ What's that? sounds familiar... is it some type of entire cardio workout?

right now i'm working full time and taking night classes, so i don't have much time.

I usually get to the gym about 4-5 times a week.

M: 0.5mile warmup; lift chest, biceps, triceps; 2 mile run
W: 0.5mile warmup; lift shoulders, back, legs; 2 mile run
Th: 0.5mile warmup; lift chest, biceps, triceps; 2 mile run
F:same as Wed.
Saturday or Sunday: longer run, maybe around 4 miles, plus some raquetball or something else.

starting to get a little bored, i switch things up every now and then, but could use something new. hence the question about this p90x thing.

A good strength workout works for me. Do some core lifts mixed with some focus on other body parts(Bench, squats, leg press, shrugs, etc) on Monday and Friday then do some resistance workouts on wednesday. Worked for me so far, bench max went up 30 pounds in two weeks.

not sure if I'm up to doing it 90 straight days along with all the running I do. I watched an infomercial on it. I jsut don't think there would be enough cardio in it for my by itself. Plus life gets in the way sometimes. 90 days straight would be tough to do.

I just ordered the Bar Method. Should be here today or tomorrow. A friend is doing it and she said it kicked her butt.

I can't do mornings...wish i could...but I would have to get up at about 5 or so in the am.

I'm still doing bow-flex and Schwinn. Everything but the core. Which I need to figure out something for that area.
I hate sit-ups and leg lifts.
