Nice job Hat.Very good questions.I didn't realize the three point line was the same as junior high.I am a bit concerned with a Tennessee match up with Temple if two guys average 45 a game.Do any of these coaches ever make any comments about Coach Pearl and the direction of our program since Coach Pearl is at the helm?

I've purposely stayed away from questions about Bruce because I don't want the coaches to think they're getting "setup" questions from a Tennessee website. I'll be talking to some coaches in the next couple of weeks who I will feel more comfortable asking about Bruce and UT, because they'll know I'm not trying to ambush them.

Got it.I was just curious as to how the rest of the country felt about the emergence of Tennessee basketball.

Thanks Hat - I'm going to be much more informed on all of college basketball this year, not just the SEC and ACC, b/c of your posts.

Dionte Christmas - frontrunner for best name in NCAA hoops.

I'm going with SMU center Papa Dia.

That's not bad either.

You know some announcers are already working on their calls for both players.

"Christmas came early this year for the Hawks."

"Who's your Papa Dia?"

I hope they can do better.

Gotta say this is some really good stuff you are putting out Hat. I don't know if most of us would be exposed to these guys without your efforts.

Thanks :salute:

You're welcome. I get a lot of enjoyment out of this board. Just trying to give something back.

Hat, does Pearl talking about using more zone when the 3 line moves back make his style of play more, or less, effective?
Quick guys with long wing spans, like Tyler Smith, should be very good zone defenders. Playing more zone in the halfcourt might slow the tempo slightly, but I don't think it will have any noticeable effect on the efficacy of Bruce's system. Further, he can always shift back to more man defense if the zone flops.

zone for this squad is absolutely a two edged sword. we are not particularly good in the half court today (but better without Dane) so the zone can help cover the weaknesses of individual defenders. It can also offset some of our weakness in the middle, which should be getting a bit better on its own. However, the zone will not help defensive rebounding (not one of our strengths) and, depending on style of zone, will cut down on turnovers created.

I like the idea of rolling into an aggressive, maybe even trapping, zone for stretches, especially against some of the pathetic shooting squads the SEC has.

Interesting. I would've thought it might water down the turnover ratio...
