The Virginia Postgame Report

A failure to list one negative bullet on the coaching of the last two games reports should be unexcussable and is a disgrace to all game reports. I guess it's easier to dog the players and not the true leader.

Also, on the G'Town postgame report, I said the zone offense sucked and that UT should have pushed the pace more.

Everyone knows the offense sucks and that Martin has to do a better job developing it. If you want me to state it, it's been stated by me and every other person on this site.

I once respected you're post. but this man love you have for martin is inexcusable.

1) I don't have a man love for Martin. I think he's the right guy for the program and still do. I'm not going to panic after seven games like you and others do.

2) Even if I did, why is this inexcusable? Since when did I become an unbiased reporter for the NYT? I'm a Vol fan on a Vol message board stating my opinions.

3) I have criticized Martin, and have tonight. It's not my fault that you aren't mad I'm throwing under the bus like everyone else does after a loss, no matter what the situation is.

Didn't realize you were the king of game reports.

And bullet #1 is on the staff.

1) If Jeronne Maymon doesn't come back and help save this offense, UT is screwed. The offense just has no flow.

Really? 1. is on the staff? I'm only giving you some solid advice. If you're going to put it out, then call it like it is and don't sugar coat it.

They haven't been blown out and had a team laugh it up and go all Harlem globetrotters on them this year. Yet.

But you will throw the players under the bus? But not the coach?

Defense is too good for that. As bad as the offense has been, the D is still looking very good.

Hell, if UT can just be average offensively they'll be fine.

Who did I throw under the bus?

I try my best not to overly criticize players in the sense of berating them and criticizing over the top.

@ESPNLunardi: You think Tennessee is hard to watch these days? In 1973, the Vols scored only 11 points in a DI basketball game. Beat Temple, 11-6. Really.

Here's your bullet points from the GT game:

1. I'm not sure what to say other than that was pitiful. You just can't have. Does the zone offense suck? Yes. But when the players passive, nothing is going to happen. They showed no confidence on offense.

2. To fix this, push the pace. Any time UT pushed the pace something good happened. If you can't properly develop a zone offense, then push the pace any time you get a chance.

We've just played the 2 worst offensive games in UT history since the shot clock has been put in. You shouldn't have a postgame report that doesn't have at least one bullet item on the responsibility that the coach may have had in the loss of the game.

I admit to not knowing a thing about Missouri St but was their offense this bad? I guess I'm asking if this style of play is what we should come to expect? I'm not surprised when B1G teams like Wisconsin play games in the 40's but I have no desire for that to be UT's style. That kind of b-ball is tough to watch.

Heck at least UT was entertaining when Pearl was here. Both coaches are suspect in end-of-game situations but Martin's team is putrid. I'm wondering why he signed half of them. They seem like scout team players at best.

No, you just don't know what you are talking about.

You understand what it looks like when you have to keep telling other people they "just don't know what 'they' are talking about", right?

It's like the story, one out of 10 people in the room with you is being secretly laughed at. If you don't know who that person is, it's you.

His Missouri state teams didn't average 40ppg but they also weren't Pearl teams scoring 80ppg.

His teams typically were around 67-70ppg with a high fg% is what he's shooting for. Few turnovers, slower pace, and limited possessions...high percentage shots.

Is their not a couple of kids on campus who can knock down a shot or two. Coach, put an add out in the Beacon and let's get to 40...heck, we might even hit 50 once or twice. Jury's still out on Martin, but the trend is not good.

Gregg Marshall should have gotten the UT job on three occassions. He lost his entire roster. He'll come in here an coach circles around Shaft. Don't say you weren't warned.

Interesting he didn't do it against M State.
He was 2-5 against Martin.
Might not want to get too cocky.

We've played 2 home games and scored 75+ in both.
Watch for a turn around on Thursday.

I don't know what is more frustrating: trying to access this site, watching Hart try to hire a football coach or this team trying to score in the half court offense.

Thank goodness this game wasn't on tv. I was not able to listen to it, but this team has some huge warts and if Maymon doesn't get back then they're NIT bound unless they go on an unprecedented run. The book is out on this team. It's up to the coaching staff to adjust. Also, when Maymon only gets 5 shots then the wings and Martin are to blame. I'd play Edwards and McRae more. They have a better chance at getting this team some points.

I am beginning to wonder if the team is giving so much effort on the defensive end that it is affecting their offense at this point. Plus, when a guy like Maymon only gets 5 shots then that is inexcusable for the coaching staff and the wings to allow that to happen. 8 shots total in the last 2 games. Completely inexcusable.

As I said after the Georgetown game, until Maymon gets back there will be more games like what we saw last night and at Georgetown until a wing steps up. Maymon is a point-forward who can handle the ball, score and rebound. He takes a lot of pressure off of Golden and Stokes. Now the ball is in the coaching staff's court to come up with a plan when/if Maymon gets back. If they don't, we're looking at the NIT again.

Time to spring for a dedicated server.

I can't complain too much especially when something is free and we haven't paid to post here, but it is frustrating to watch the browser spin over and over. I'll just be glad when the coaching search is over. Trying to get on here and read/post takes too long and is not worth the time the last few days.

If UT gets worked over by Wichita State THEN I will begin to worry...I fully expect a good showing from the Vols in their return to TBA.
