The UT Rule (10sec runoff)

Great. Now will get to relieve the pain a few times each season when the rule is put into place and they show the obligatory highlights of that debacle.

“The idea is to prevent a team from gaining an advantage by committing a foul to stop the clock,” said Redding, who is also serves as college football’s national coordinator of officials.

Wow where were you 3 months ago? The thing is I guarantee Tennessee will be the first to lose because of the new rule. It just happens that way. LOL

:eek:lol: I thought the same thing, talk about a damaged football psyche. Hopefully a few winning seasons and we, Vol fans, will start to believe again...but I doubt it :p

Why do I have a sick feeling that we will be the first team to lose a game because of this new rule?

Because, as the above poster stated, we as a fanbase have a very damaged psyche when it comes to our beloved Vols. Who could blame us after the debacles we have witnessed happening to our program over the last few years? I know I thought the same exact thing without reading anything in this thread other than the link. I just pictured Hunter making a catch for 60 yards to the 10 yd line down by 1 point(in Tuscaloosa next year) with 9 seconds left and having a false start on the field goal try. Around here lately, the f-ing glass seems to have a hole in the bottom.

Basically all next year, whenever it's brought up, it will be making us look like the good guys. People will sympathize for us. After next year, it'll never come up again. The only people who are going to care are Tennessee fans.

The problem, though, is that we shouldn't care. A win or a loss in the Music City Bowl is meaningless. The important part of that night is that we got to practice that many more times.

To summarize:
Up side of the Music City Bowl? extra practices and sympathy to help fix our image
Down side of the Music City Bowl? 1 meaningless loss

Has the NCAA always been this reactive? Why do I have the impression that 20 years ago they would let things go for ever and never change?

Could be wrong of course, I'm getting pretty good at remembering things that never happened :)

Tennessee some how found a way to lose basically on both ends of one rule. This is more than likely the reason they're looking at it.

Dooley substituting in the LSU cost them the game. Not subbing in the bowl game cost them that one. I've never heard of that, but Tennessee some how managed to do it.

Meaningless? Doubt many on this board will agree with you. If you're just trying to sugarcoat it for yourself, that's fine. However, the circumstances surrounding the game made it taste pretty bitter.

I doubt you could convince those kids it was meaningless. It was a great game and one of the better bowls if not the most exciting anyway. I didn't see a better one and i'm trying to not sound bias.

If it's not BCS most think it's meaningless. I just want to see a good game and i thought we did for the most part, except the ending of course.

So what happens if your on offense driving for a score with 8 seconds left and one time out, and a player has a false start? If they rund off ten seconds game over. But you have a time out? can you use it still?
