The type of coach we need right now...

Pile on Jumper after he played a pretty good game. Dude is basically a walk on who has done everything asked of him. He has gotten smarter, stronger, faster, stayed out of trouble, stayed healthy, did his school work, mentored the younger players, serving as the defenses' QB, and you folks keep downing him. if you are that bias (invoke Freak's rule about not calling people names here) what does that say about your Fire Butch assessment? I believe Reeves Maybin, Kirkland Jr, and others were excellent recruits and all injured. Some good young talent on the bench but, young talent equals blown plays and losses. A wise old Bama coach commented "count on losing a game for every freshman you start" or close to that. We've been playing freshmen, due to injuries, and losing.

Jumper had 2 assisted tackles and 1 solo yesterday. Not a good game at all from the starting middle linebacker.
SC ran 40 times and our starting linebacker made 1 tackle.

They only scored 15 points. Great game from our defense. Jumper sets the defense. Great job.

I'd welcome a coach who knows or can install an offensive scheme that is proven to be competitive against quality P5 teams.

Obviously recruiting alone doesn't work. We have an excellent recruiter. Obviously just development doesn't work because Dooley was pretty good at that but he couldn't recruit. We need a head coach who can recruit even 75% of what Jones does and hire assistants to develop the talent. Or vice versa get a coach who can install a good system, hire 2-3 good recruiters and the rest of the staff be decent developers. UT is soooo close. We can be 10-2 every year. But we need a decent overall coach not one that is so gifted one way or the other.

Who is the excellent recruiter? Does signing legacy kids or 34 kids to bump a recruiting class make one elite?

Dools signed 3 stars too.

Last two classes aren't elite.

If you want to win and bring in recruits? Best scenario - Fire Butch, name an interim, who then brings in STEVE SPURRIER as the OC!! How many recruits doesn’t want to play in his offense and he can coach QBs!!!!!

The coach to unify Tennessee and please the fan base doesn't exist. Knoxville would make Neyland miserable and run him off

A STRONG (and NOT as in Charlie) defensive minded HC, that brings in offensive coaching talent, especially for the O-line and at RB. Dominate on defense and run the ball down teams throats, with some passing down field to keep teams from stacking the box. But also, a HC and staff that make in game adjustments! I love offense, but stout defenses win big games!

Honestly, I think things might have gone differently if we'd made a quality hire for the OL. These guys have been a huge disappointment and IMO, they are at the root of most all the problems we are having on the offensive side of the ball. Give me an OL coach who will get these guys to deliver and we'd be seeing a much improved running game and more time for our QB and WR to produce. Yearn for the days we would actually line up and knock guys off the ball instead of sitting on our hells receiving the blows. Biggest mistakes Butch has made were Wells and Scott. They're in over their heads but he made the choices to save good recruiters.

Sadly we have become the Nebraska of the Sec . Holding onto what we use to be in the 90s and continue to hire the wrong guy time after time.

You just described Charles to a tee...

Yes, because he was so great at Texas...NOT. Let him get a couple years under him at USF, and see how that goes. He is a good DC, but not HC.

Charlie's problems at Texas stemed from a bunch of medling big oil money boosters. He's a top notch x's and o's defensive coach that was recruited to an offensive league. Mack Brown left him almost nothing after he too was forced out. No wonder he didn't succeed there.

At Louisville, he beat Florida in the sugar bowl with a less talented roster. He's a heck of a recruiter who has established relationships with TX coaches and is again building ties in the recruit rich FL.

Even if he "flopped" at TX he's still an excellent choice.
