Obviously recruiting alone doesn't work. We have an excellent recruiter. Obviously just development doesn't work because Dooley was pretty good at that but he couldn't recruit. We need a head coach who can recruit even 75% of what Jones does and hire assistants to develop the talent. Or vice versa get a coach who can install a good system, hire 2-3 good recruiters and the rest of the staff be decent developers. UT is soooo close. We can be 10-2 every year. But we need a decent overall coach not one that is so gifted one way or the other.

More and more I am appreciating the skill of how to manage a football game and call the right play at the right time, call timeouts effectively, etc.

I disagree with Butch being an excellent recruiter. Hes a good recruiter.

When Colten Jumper is still your starting MLB after 5 years on the job, you haven't recruited good enough.

It's simple.
A football coach.

You don't need a salesman to recruit here. If you can coach and develop you can get the rest.

I think all coaches in the SEC East are pretty good recruiters, it's a basic requirement of the job now to recruit well.

True, Butch has had a lot of tailwinds in his recruiting (i.e. legacies, playing time, huge bump with in-state talent). You saw in February when the in-state players went elsewhere what happened to the class.....

We need a guy who can win press conferences, develop talent, and game plan.

The rest, including recruiting, will take care of itself if he can do those three things.

We need a no BS kind of guy who holds everyone accountable regardless of the amount of stars he had coming out of high school.

For goodness sake I'm starting Kamara in my fantasy league today and he wasn't even starting for us last season.

10-2 is only a stepping stone. Would be tough to lose 2 games and still win the NC...and The NC is the goal!

Spot on and criminally underrated post

Good Lord...really? Do you think that's it. Failure to adjust to changes the day of and on the field during the game is huge. Recruiting is huge. Hiring and managing staff is huge. Measuring performance and making changes, that work better, to all the above is huge, speaking, motivating, having a thick skin for negative folks and media. Plus the tasks you mentioned. I should be shocked with the "slept at Holiday Inn Express" people on VN, but I am not. Kinda like that in politics these days too.
