I don't care what has been said previous to this thread about the 13 men on the field play. The truth, and it is absolutely undeniable, is that Les Miles and LSU (in typical fashion) so badly managed the play call and the clock on the last play, it caused confusion on our side.

Football is a game of relative consistency in regards to procedure. After the failed Peterson rush, a normal team would have immediately reformed and spiked to stop the clock or immediately sent new position players (there was still plenty of time to do so) and run the next play. However, LSU was so absolutely unprepared for the next play, the players and coaches panicked and ran back and forth before finally sending in a package and hiking the ball (prior to being set in my opinion.)

This was so badly managed and so out of the norm of typical football procedure, it caused an equally panicked reaction on our side. The analogy I will use is similiar to that of guy at a bar who spots a really good looking woman. Normally, he would have to approach her, drop some bad line, and see what type of reaction he gets. In the Les Miles world, the woman would walk up to him, pull her clothes off, sit in his lap, and ask him what 6x8 is. Of course he knows the answer is 48, but what just transpired was soooooooooooo out of the norm, he panics and blurtes out 117!

This was a once in a lifetime event. We may never see the likes of Miles and his end of the game mishaps again. But, I am sure of one thing. A Derek Dooley led team will not succumb to this type of error again. This the right man for the job. Yes this was unfortunate, untimely, and will be remembered for a very long time. But we will be great again soon because of this staff. I truly believe that.

I heard this explanation on the radio today and it made me laugh because it is plausible.I have been watching college football for 30 years and have never seen anything quite like that...

Actually George Plaster put it well...He said Miles was at the blackjack table and was asked if he was sure he wanted to hit on 18......twice

Yes, stupidity is their new secret weapon. I remember a Pentagon report saying the Russians were in such deep need of proper equipment they were improvising which made them more unpredictable and therefore a better fighting force.....

Next year, Dooley and co will say to themselves, "Ah, this is where Les is imploding. I will do nothing and win the game."

Spencer Tillman put it the best I have heard so far: LSU's incompetence sparked Tennessee's inexperience.

I understand Dooley wanting to substitue due to LSU's change in package-you can't defend a 3 WR formation in goalline. The sad part is that he should have not given LSU the benefit of the doubt in actually being able to get organized in time to run a play out of that formation....The image of the players embracing Dooley after they thought they won has been burned into my head. They do seem to really love playing for him, which is a nice takeaway from the game.

I agree. I think TN played very well, especially considering the quick score by LSU in the first minute. That was probably one of the toughest loses (maybe bama last year) I have seen. I have allot more hope for the team, than I did this time last year.

i agree. I said the same about his confusion bleeding on to our sideline because of the change of formation. The bright side of all this is that we are going through all this during our rebuilding year and not when we are fighting for a national championship. I would rather get all the "experience" out of the way for the coaching staff now so we can be a well oiled machine later.

Good thing you don't care what has been said previously given that there was a thread I authored in which I said the same thing.

Wow! Sorry I didn't consult with you and your lawyers to determine if you had already written this. Can we settle out of court? How about if I help you move out of your mothers basement?

Duke bball and TN fan...nice

You can try new "fresh takes" like that Sheppard tore off Simms face mask on that sack and it should have been a penalty.

If we had just stopped them on that 4th and 13!:banghead2:

You are absolutely right on this as well. When I saw them line up 4 and then the right end dropped back into coverage only rushing 3, I thought Chavis had gotten ahold of Wilcoxs' headset and called the play.

Don't get it twisted...
It is an attic, and I have both a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles poster and my life size Shaq in the Magic jersey.

gotta go to 104-5 The Zone: THE Sports Station and watch the les miles press conference. can't tell me he deserves to be the coach at LSU. he doesn't learn from his mistakes! i think dooley will learn from this and it will never happen again. unlike the mad hatter who does crap like this 4-5 times a season
