The Truth about Juan Jennings?

With all due respect, butchna, Hacksaw probably should have been kicked off with his antics. On the other hand, back then stories came out about what happened months after. It became something to laugh at.

These guys choose to get on social media immediately, because it makes them feel like stars. There are repurcussions that can come with that.

Things are just differenet now. Lots of negatives with that, lots of positives, I guess.

Sawing a car in half and disrespecting coaches are two different things. Unless it’s their car, why would a coach give a crap? I don’t think today’s player makes that huge of an effort so it was a faulty example from the very start. :)

I'm saying it now...

If ya'll think choir boys win championships you're living in denial.

Why was it so great when Jack Reynolds loses his mind after a game but a player now gets pissed and puts in on social media and he's a thug?

Some of the guys we had playing between 1995 and 2002 would make JJ look like a saint.

True but times have changed.
There was no social media. It was much easier to keep those things on DL than it is now.

Fact is its a dumpster fire up there and the next coach will make the final call. Jennings was recruited as a highly rated QB and with injuries and crap being put on the field Jennings probably should have been QB.

Maybe, by the time we got to the end, but in the beginning he was behind some pretty good QB's. Say what you will, but he couldn't beat them out.

By the way, you misspelled Jauan...careful. :)

Lol... ooooorr the truth comes out about how Butch ran his team and how is errand boys who followed him ran it.

Like I said, I'll remain indifferent. Call me insane if you want, I wouldnt expect anything less than you. I think its kind of funny that you bring up the guys draft stock when, to me, all he did was say the obvious, pointing fingers at Butch's buddies and our incompetent coaching staff...

Jennings was hurt most of the year... him not being on the sidelines under who a HC who may very well be a sycophant... yeah that doesn't bother me a bit. If anything, him not being on the sidelines look worse for Butch than it does Jennings.

I hope the truth comes out about Jones as well as Jennings. I'm sure everyone feels the same way.

High 5. I completely agree.

Social media's gift to an impetuous 20 year old is the ability to amplify one's voice AND ones liability in moments. But WAS JENNINGS WRONG? Did this staff lie to it's players? Was he wrong to ask for a better coach (and for ANYONE on this board dare to judge him for that?)?

He shouldn't have said it so publicly but he is now screwed. I don't see how he gets dressers and he has to wait two years to get back on the field. After missing a year.

But let's look at something more bothersome... WHO IN THE HE*L ALLOWED JIMMY HYAMS TO WRITE THAT HATECHET PIECE OF YELLOW JOURNALISM FOR THE A DEPT??

I haven't had time to look through all if the threads but it's no one bothered by a mouthpiece for the athletic department destroying a college students career? Look at this quote:

"Jennings is apparently fighting some demons. He has anger management problems. He has a volatile personality. He has tested positive for drugs at least once at UT.

It’s obvious to me that Jennings needs professional help."

WTF? Jennings needs to call a lawyer. If there are any lawyers here who can tell me why Jennings couldn't use this trash article as a means to be reinstated, let me know.

I have never seen an objective journalist make such spiteful, definitive declarations. To sum up, Hyams -

OUTED JENNINGS AS A CHRONIC DRUG USER

CALLED HIM A TERRIBLE TEAMMATE WITHOUT INTERVIEWING, YOU KNOW, A TEAMMATE. HIS ONLY SOURCES ARE THOSE DOING DAMAGE CONTROL FOR THE AD.

NEVER DETERMINED IF JENINGS WAS WRONG ABOUT HIS CLAIMS, REGARDLESS OF HOW IT WAS PHRASED.

NEVER INTERVIEWED JENNINGS

HYAMS SAID -

But for every great play, he seemed to draw an unsportsmanlike penalty and engage in scuffles with opponents

WHERE WERE THESE PENALITIES THAT OVERSHADOWED HOW AWESOME AND TOUGH OF A PLAYER THIS KID IS??

I know this is long but this situation is BS. When I watched that kid play I saw someone who was pushing the rest of the team (especially coaches) to take the game as seriously as he did.

HYAMS IS A HACK AND A BUM. I never had much of an opinion on him before besides thinking he was smug but this is just wrong. I've never seen such a blatent hatchet.

Agree. It seems with every coaching change it takes a few months for 'the rest of the story" to come out about them. With Dooley, I didn't hear about his arrogance with high school coaches, etc. until he was gone. But there were hints had I been astute enough. Players complaining that they didn't feel welcomed at practice, that they had to schedule visits. Media like Hyams defended Dooley making analogies to visiting friends and how rude it would be to just drop by unannounced...and then hailed the improved relationship that Butch had with former players, as if there were no correlation.

With Kiffin, I didn't hear about party apartments, wrecked abandoned cars and the like until he was gone. Hacks like Hyams certainly never told me about it while Kiffin was here. But there were hints (hostess program, recruiting violations, Mike Hamilton acknowledging Kiffin's lies that should have clued me in.

My guess is that we will hear a lot in the coming months that will shock us about Butch and staff. Antone Davis, Drae Bowles, Daniel Helm, Jalen Hurd, Preston Williams, Venzell Boulware, Joc Bruce, Mack Crowder, and Jennings have provided the hints. This time I've been listening. I think I know what a train wreck that program is even if Jimmy Hyams doesn't tell me so.

I understand how unseemly Jennings's rant was. I'm not as uptight as Hyams, but I'm still your typical white, educated professional whose culture doesn't condone outbursts like that. The bigger issue though is whether what Jennings said is true, not how he said it. Because if there is truth that the problems on this staff were not limited to Butch, but extend to others on staff...we need to know that! Because this staff is still there, potentially doing harm to our program. I don't know what the truth is, but I would like to not have to wait two years from now for Jimmy Hyams to retrospectively tell me how bad things were in 2017. :realmad:

I guess your generation feels he should’ve just gotten a “timeout.” He had already been given multiple warnings. However, this is the real world, and in the real world criminal, drug induced and disrespectful behavior is not acceptable. Jauan is an adult. He was given requirements to meet that would have allowed his return to the team. He failed to meet those requirements. He embarrassed himself, his family, his teammates, coaches, the fans and my University. He isn’t coming back....ever...

Because they wouldn't let him at QB?

What?

This sounds like a smear campaign to save face. I've supported Hyams but he was just as half cocked as Jennings calling for his suspension before the dust had even settled.

So apparently all you gotta do to create an inflammatory article these days is write up your thing then say "a source said".

That's really all it takes.

Not saying I believe it isnt true, but ******, Jennings manned up and said his peace - said what all Vol fan were thinking, albeit in a very offhand way. Got dismissed for it the day before turkey day no less. If you don't got the brass to be named as a source or to name your source, your article looks like nothing more than either a) a click bait article or b) a hit piece to make UT look better about their already struggling public image. Either way, it's probably both.

Until someone with some brass comes forward and confirms it as true, I'll not care what some glorified sports blogger says "his source" says. Yall can call him a thug all you want, but that dude showed more passion than most everyone on our roster and his dismissal came at a very strange time.

If yall wanna take the word of some 2012 graduate from Mizzou, that's up to yall. I prefer to remain indifferent about it since the timing of Jennings dismissal was ... how should we say ... ill-timed?

doesn't really matter, the second he took to social media he was done as he should have been. Quit blaming the current coaching staff for all the issues...

Maybe concentrate on your insider status a bit more...

It really doesn’t matter how true Jenning’s insta-rant was. You just can’t take to social media in a profanity laced tirade with those truths in an effort to embarrass your coaches and university.

The real stupidity of Jennings is how bad he is hurting his own draft stock. He has company with Baker Mayfield. Maturity matters, and NFL scouts take notice.

With you 100% with the exception of the “company with Baker Mayfield” thought. Mayfield is about to win the Heisman, will be an early round draft pick, one of the first QBs taken imho. JJ ain’t getting drafted by anybody.
