to Memphis vol.....Memphis Tigers...their head coach was my HS defensive coordinator back in 1980-81...Tommy was a drill seargent....very tough two a days I can still smell the grass and sweat
I left town for Montana in the Spring of '81 and was out West for 14 years before moving back. When I left, both Memphis State (Tiger High) and Ole Miss actually had pages in their annuals dedicated to a picture of the first Senior girl to get married....
I'm not kidding
What's more (can we get a hubba) the school had 23,000 students, 17,000 of them were female, and 10,000 of those females lived at home.
Not merely off-campus, but at home.
Again, I'm not kidding [/quote]
So- thanks, really, dan4vols.
While I only took some courses at MSU in 79 & 80 because the same classes were sadistic at Southwestern at Memphis, I've always felt defensive about the Tigers' crappy reputation back then. They're my home team.
It almost sounds like, at the same time, Tommy and the Tigers were simaltaneously developing into the best thing that could eventually happen to each other. He was becomming the kind of ultimate hard-ass who could actually make something of them, and they were becoming the kind of sweat-hog losers who were just waiting for somebody like him to pummel the success out of them.
