i'm desperately trying to encourage my girlfriend to get rid of the two stupid cats we have and get another boxer so ours isnt lonely all the time, but i'm running out of ideas.

It seems to me the solution is right in front of you. Go ahead and get the Boxer, no self respecting Boxer worth having is going to suffer having cats around. If the dog doesn't "eliminate" the problem, take it back and try another one, you didn't want that wus of a oversized Pug anyway.
