Frost & Campbell - Not enough meat on the bones. Toss'em back for another few years.

Over the past couple of weeks I have heard at least 5 sports talk hosts and writers say that Gundy would leave his alma mater for the right school and money.

If looking at dream coaches Gundy might not be on your list: however (if this is true) he would probably be high on a realistic list.

I'm ok with it... if he gets a hair cut.

Mullen or Frost is the direction both Tennessee and Florida are looking in. Campbell and Brohm both have fairly expensive buyouts for their track records. Tennessee wants an offensive guy with head coaching experience and experience recruiting the region is a plus. That should bring into focus the reasons why Frost and Mullen lead the pack. The fact that both also do well developing QBs in a conference that hasn't had a ton of great QBs over the past few years also makes those two coaches very attractive. I think it will be Mullen, Frost, Brohm, or Campbell for both Florida and Tennessee. I really think stricklin will end up with Mullen and honestly I think Tennessee lands Frost. I know some worry about the Nebraska angle but it's so very hard to recruit there and be successful as a coach. JMO from what I've heard.

Gruden isn't happening, I think it's silly to discuss honestly. Kiffin never would happen, he just pissed off too many people of influence on the way out. Fuente is a good one but will cost probably more than Tennessee would want to spend when they think someone like Frost is a better option anyways. Miles would only be if they got way down the list, Les is a great coach but he's stubborn and he's struggled to develop QB.

Florida will also reach out to Willie Taggart at Oregon to gauge his interest.

1. Jon Gruden
Pros:
-Very Successful NFL coach
-Great X's and O's
-Works with college QB's all the time
-Would have a great staff
-Would be the best Cultural fit. He knows the expectations, he knows UT football, and has a great energetic personality.
Cons:
-Very, VERY expensive
-Unproven on college level

2. Scott Frost
Pros:
-Part of Oregon's days of dominance
-Background in offense and defense on College level
-Great offensive mind, develops QBs well.
-His UCF team is currently undefeated and will likely remain so. They are destroying people. Including a decent Maryland team, and a good Memphis team.
Cons:
-Not much HC experience
-No Power 5 HC experience
-Could bolt for Nebraska

3. Matt Campbell
Pros:
-Successful at Toledo
-With an Iowa State team that went 3-9, 2-10, 3-9 in the 3 years before he arrived, is currently 6-2 with 2 wins over top 5 teams in his 2nd year.
-Is ranked 15th in College Football Playoff Rankings.
-Power 5 experience
Cons:
-Only 2nd year at Iowa State
-9 mil buyout

I think any of these 3 guys would do great here. All great coaches.

Couldn't agree more.

That is my top 3 as well. And the same order (as of now). Depending on how Matt Campbell and Scott Frost end the season, they could flip flop from 2 and 3.

Was watching replay of Iowa State vs. TCU and it showed Matt Campbell many times. Every time he looked like he had the eye of the tiger and his team played that way. Gets my vote for #1.

I'd be very happy with Matt Campbell. I like what I've seen so far from him.

He would be a slam dunk choice if Gruden says no.

Bill Clark at UAB has taken a team in its first year from a two year death sentence to 5-3 with whatever players he could find. This is an incredible feat! The man can coach.

He also beat Southern Miss 30-12. Let’s see how Butch measures up with loads of talent.

Sorry, but unless Butch loses this week it's looking more and more like there will be no coaching changes until next year. Currie appears soft and answers to Haslam. It's sickening to think that we pay a guy to NOT do his job.

I dont really have a list of my own right now. I do want to know this out of curiosity. Another site mentioned Schiano. If discussed, my apologies. Thoughts?

Certainly not disagreeing with what you said. However not sure Tennessee needs/wants to hire someone with 2 years HC exp from UAB, and one from Jacksonville State. His other exp would be South Alabama DC and a lot of high school.

I know some are suggesting others with little to no HC exp; however many learned from great coaches and at big programs.

Why does no one on here show Mike Leach some love? I would love to see The Pirate here as the coach! Look at what he did with Texas Tech and then Washington State. I don't get the love affair with Frost, I personally believe he's too green. Just my two cents.

So there was discussion hidden in this thread after all. I think he's a safe fallback hire and could produce a defensive front that would actually perform. He's on a one year deal so there's no buyout. He makes 700k so we could get him at $3-4mm. I don't know much of his recruiting however.

As for another poster mentioning Venables, I think he's content to run with Dabo and take the leap to Bama when Saban hangs it up.
