So, who are the most likely dance partners for the Wildcats? Let’s break it down.

The Lock: Tennessee

This one feels like a no-brainer. The border war between Kentucky and Tennessee is one of the oldest and most storied rivalries in the conference, dating back to 1893. Despite a lopsided all-time record in favor of the Volunteers (85−26−9), the games are often filled with a unique brand of animosity and passion. The geography makes too much sense, the history is too rich, and the fanbases love to hate each other too much. The only hang-up? Tennessee has a long line of suitors, including Vanderbilt, Florida, and Alabama, who all believe they have a claim. Still, it’s hard to imagine an SEC schedule where the Cats and Vols don’t meet.

Our prediction? The schedule makers will prioritize geography and history, locking in Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and Mississippi State as Kentucky's permanent three.

Tennessee

This is the other no-brainer. The SEC worked its schedule for years to feature a cross-division rivalry for each team, largely to protect games like the Third Saturday in October.

That’s not going away with the new system. Speaking at SEC spring meetings in May, UA athletics director Greg Byrne spoke of wanting to preserve the Tennessee game, but acknowledged it might be on the chopping block had the old system remained.

“If you go to nine, you might have some more flexibility with what that looks like,” Byrne told reporters. “But I wouldn’t like to see (the Tennessee rivalry go away). But I also realize that things are going to evolve and change. It would be a sad time if that were to happen, but also, you have to deal with reality.”

Every Georgia fan assumed that UGA would continue playing Florida and Auburn every season as they are the Bulldogs two rivalries they have in the SEC. The third opponent however could have been any other team in the conference. Many Georgia fans were hoping it would either be Tennessee or South Carolina, and it turns out the Gamecocks would have been Georgia's third game earlier this summer
