The Third Debate Thread

You don't generally scan ahead for anything - you're too busy copy and pasting other peoples thoughts and passing them off as your own.

In his defense it does take some time to regurgitate everything he hears and reads on FoxNews.

Typical liberal.....gotta resort to taking personal shots at someone.

What're you gonna do now...try to start a shoving match and blame it on the Republicans?

Right, because Republicans never play the blame game (i.e. Everything is the fault of the "liberal media bias").

Trump says he will absolutely accept the election results.

If he wins.

(PS I think he's just trying to be funny. But, gosh he just cannot help but keep these things just lingering out there. Seems like not taking it seriously is pretty foolish, but that's just me.)

No one knows what he's trying to do; he probably doesn't either.

Nonetheless, Trump has taken this election to the darkest place of American politics. American democracy is premised upon two fundamental things: the acceptance of the Constitution as the ultimate law of the land and the peaceful transition of power.

While he gives lip service to the first, Trump has now openly bucked both, especially the latter.

Trumpism began as a rebellion against Washington's loss of real American values and principles. And it will end as being the single most dangerous threat to those very values and principles we've yet seen.

I just don't think he realizes the effect this has on some of the extreme elements of his constituency. While I have no doubt but that Trump will accept the result, he says these things because he 1) likes to rile up his own base; and 2) takes no small measure of delight in antagonizing everyone else.

He does not personally mean it in any sort of malevolent way.

Thing is, he is oblivious to the fact that him touting this notion of voter fraud so massive it can affect the election -- just even hinting at it -- feeds the conspiracy sentiments of a group of people who just cannot accept that they are on the outside looking in.

Being or not being a gracious loser is one thing. But making quips about doubting the election result, just to keep the fan boys pumped, creates a lot of problems that the rest of us then have to deal with. Not cool.

Not that I agree with any of this, but what are you afraid will happen?

I think that's a fair assessment.... to a point. The breathless outrage from pundits over this is a little much. It's not as if we haven't heard similar statements before from others.

Do you really think Trump is yelling fire in a crowded theater here?

The difference in the above mentioned cases were that the claims were made after the votes had been cast. Trump is saying if I lose it's rigged.

The effort to delegitimize W in 2000. To his credit, Gore finally backed off, but others clearly didn't.

Not even remotely comparable. Gore made no such accusations BEFORE the fact and even initially conceded his opponent's victory. After legitimate concerns about voting irregularities emerged, he then proceeded with a rightful challenge. And one that, to Donald Trump's "rigged elections" point may have been accurate.

This is in no shape or form like Al Gore's challenge. It's an insult to American democracy to even compare the two.

Donald Trump:
"Of course I would accept a clear election result, but I would also reserve my right to contest or file a legal challenge in the case of a questionable result. And always, I will follow and abide by all of the rules and traditions of all of the many candidates who have come before me. Always."

Al Gore:
"The effort that I have underway is simply to make sure that all of the votes are counted, and when the issues that are now being considered in the Florida Supreme Court are decided, that will be an important point. But I don't want to speculate what the court will do. I am very troubled by a lot of the stories that have been reported, about blacks being discouraged from voting. Whenever you have allegations of those kind, that is a matter the entire country ought to take seriously."

I agree that the comments are different in that they are coming before the election. But in many ways, the timing doesn't matter. Whether you delegitimize an election before or after, you delegitimize an election result.

Anyone notice how Hillary thought it was funny that gay people are pushed off buildings by radical Muslims?

I love the feigned attempt by republicans to act like they care about gay people.

A Trump presidency would attempt to strip away marriage equality, result in ENDA being delayed at least 4 more years, result in a host of new state laws like NC's HB2, and effectively push LGBT individuals back into the closet.

Give me a break with your newfound concern about treatment of gays.

Trump has more important issues.

I honestly don't think that issue is even on the radar for most Republicans.
