The thing that pains me the most about the game last night wasn't that our team quit.

It's that many of our fans quit.

I didn't get to attend the game last night, but I had several people tell me that as soon as Simms threw the pick 6, large amounts of "fans" started heading towards the exit.

In my opinion that is more embarrassing than anything that happened on the field last night. I mean, I understand as well as anyone that we weren't going to come back after that happened, but we were only down by a couple of touchdowns with plenty of time left in the game.

My point is, how can anyone be disapointed with our team giving up when a large amount of our "fans" give up when something bad happens? What makes us any better than them?

Just my thoughts. Disagree if you want, but I just felt that a lot of us need to be reminded not to give up on our team when they need us the most.

I have to agree with this to some degree. In our basketball games I see our fans going crazy when we get down. However, when something goes wrong during a football game they automatically pack it up, act like a baby, and head out! Not to quote Polar Express or anything but sometimes you HAVE TO BELIEVE!!!!!!!

I just think it's very hypocritical of our fans to talk about how they don't want our team to quit in games, but yet many of our fans start leaving in the 3rd quarter when we face some adversity.

I agree that we need to stand behind them but it is getting harder with each sucky season. I will always be a fan but there are many in that stadium that only followed TN because they were dominate and popular at the time. It sucks to be irrelevant like TN is now.

Small difference here... Players have their college tuition paid to continue playing hard, and they are playing for their football future. Fans come and pay for the game out of their hard earned money.

When I had season tickets in the past along w/ my in-laws, I loved going to the games. Only thing I hated was that my in-laws didn't like sitting in all of the traffic after the game. They would want to leave right at the end of the 3rd quarter. I thought it was a bunch of crap. We never stayed for the entire ball game. Needless to say, I never felt like I ever got my money's worth.

I left at the end of third quarter. I didn't quit. I just had a six year old that got tired and needed to go home. We stayed through the rain, but it caught up with him eventually. Not all the fans quit on the team when they left.

I understand that and it's as hard on me as anyone else. It sucks. But that's also my whole point.

It's easy to stand behind your team when times are good, but it's how you as a fan responds when they're going through the tough times that really matters. JMO

Fans need to be resilient just like the players. It works both ways.

I think it's the four years of hell that the football side has been through. I mean...we've collectively gotten into the mindset that bad things are going to happen, and once they do, it's all downhill from there.

I'm sure there were plenty of fans in the same situations last night that you were in. I understand that completely.

I'm talking about the people that just quit as soon as we get down and face adversity. A perfect example of that was the pick 6.

So you think we all should just sit down and feel sorry for ourselves? I'd rather just cheer that much harder for the team.

No, not at all. Just trying to explain the behavior. Once people get into the mindset that they expect bad things to happen, it takes a hell of a string of good things to break them out of it.

I find it funny that the people criticizing the fans for leaving were the ones who didn't go to the game.

I think that is the viewpoint of everyone who doesn't pay 5 grand for season tickets just to sit on their ass for 2.5 quarters and tell everyone in front of them they cant see!

The late hour sent some folks home last night, but I guarantee you those people with kids that needed to go to bed would have been gone at the start of the 4th with or without the rain!

Not really defending any fan for leaving early, but after ten years of what seems to be a snake bite program, fans are getting conditioned to expect the worse. This program needs a big win to lift up moral for team and fans alike. Think about it, other than beating CPF lite (Richt) this bunch hasn't had much to celebrate in the last decade. Wears on a program and its fans.

I am still trying to figure out how I missed all these people leaving after the interception??? And I'm trying to figure out why so many people won't go put their ass in a seat at the game but they'll get on the internet and ***** about the people who do.

There's always a small mass exit after the 4th quarter starts. If you leave at the end of the game, you add an hour to your trip home. I got back to Chattanooga at 2am. If my husband had had to work this morning, we would've left early.

Just my .02 since everyone else is adding theirs. Eventually we'll have enough to buy-out Les Miles' contract at the rate we're going.

First of all, I've heard from several people I talked to that large amounts of people started heading towards the exit after the INT. Brent Hubbs even said there were people leaving. Second of all, you don't know what my situation was. Maybe I couldn't make it to this game. It's none of your concern.

I think the reason that most fans left was not only because we were down, but they saw how stale the offense had turned in the second half. I thought the game really went the wrong way when we got the ball back with three minutes in the first half and then we have a quick three and out and they get the ball back (after a shanked punt) and score. I felt like that penalty broke our morale.

Maybe you don't know their situation. From my view in Section L, most of the fans headed to the exits at the end of the 3rd quarter and a few minutes into the 4th quarter, when there was absolutely no sign of life left in the team. I left my seat shortly after the Oregon punt return. Personally, I thought the fan support was awesome last night and when the team quit, so did the majority of the fans.
