is that he is incredibly inconsistent. I don't want to bash anyone, and I support the coaches. But Ainge has been the same the last two years. When he gets pressured he gets flustered, and even when he doesn't he sometimes loses his accuracy. Look at the Vandy game. He was solid for a quarter, terrible for the next two, and then led us back at the end. I have no ill will toward the guy, but when you have a senior quarterback he is supposed to be consistent. That's the number one thing he's supposed to bring to the table. If you look at the game yesterday it wasn't just the two picks, it was that he was inaccurate for large portions of the game and after the first drive our offense really could not get anything going. Part of me still says he can be a quality NFL quarterback if he gets the mental stuff behind him and lands in a good situation, but there is definitely a part of me that is glad someone else will be given a chance next year.

The other important thing is that one of the commentators last night said Ainge had been given an edict from on high to get rid of the ball within 2 to 2.5 seconds all season. Now I understand why this would be done. If you have a young quarterback or a dominant defense/running game then you just don't want the QB to make mistakes that will lose the game for you. However a four year starter senior quarterback is supposed to be able to handle more than a bunch of three and five step drops. If you look at Ainge his yards per attempt was pathetic all season long. We did not have any kind of vertical passing game, and it killed us. People could load up on the run, and sit on our short stuff. I don't know if this an indictment on Ainge or the coaching staff. I would lean toward the former, as Coach Cut has not been afraid to go down the field in the past and even though he has said a lot of glowing things about Erik this year I think he understood that he does in fact have a propensity for doing bad things when he gets pressured.

At any rate I think all the negativity toward the coaching staff is unfounded. Our number one problem right now is the lack of a pass rush on defense. If we had a pass rush the coverage would look better and we wouldn't have to blitz so much. I think yesterday Chief's game plan was perfection. I also think Cutcliff is proven, and that Coach Fulmer clearly has shown the ability to recruit top flight defensive linemen in the past. We will come out of this run of mediocrity. If you look at who we have returning if we can find a good quarterback we should be significantly better than this year. I hope people can put the animosity behind them and find a way to get back behind our team and our coach. Sorry for the opus.

Read 70% of my posts leading up to this game and they pretty much mirror yours in my thoughts of Ainge.

Ainge and Hefney in my opinion that belong on the sidelines.... I've said it about Ainge all season and for some reason kept thinking Hefney would come around and stop diving all over the field but he hasn't.

I don't know where Hefney has been for most if not all the season.
We are very lucky to have Jerod Mayo and Eric Berry

The problem with Hefney is that we have NO one else to play at saftey, or he probably would have been benched.
