Yep 1989, left to right: McRae, Myslinski, Fisher, Still, Davis.
They left UCLA scattered all up and down the west coast after strutting into the game at #6 in the polls. The next game they disassembled an Auburn front seven that was supposed to be top 5 or so in the nation. The last drive of the game they simply pushed them around as we marched down the field culminating with an 8 yard draw into paydirt with Chuck Webb toting the pigskin.
There wasn't a single defense that stymied them that year, even after Reggie rolled craps on a drug test. Yes, we dropped the game in Birmingham, but that was a defensive issue, not the OL. Siran Stacy, are you freaking kidding me...
In 1990, Doug Baird took over for All American Eric Still and they didn't miss a beat. That team should have won the National Championship. The talent and the schedule were laid out. Should have only had one blemish on their record, the tie with Colorado. Giving up a 16 point lead on the Plains against Auburn in the 4th quarter was just absurd, especially since Carter could have broken up both TD passes, but in both cases tried for the intereception. Still, if Burke makes the 35 yard field goal as time expires, we still win. Bama was Johnny's greatest choke job and if Kelly puts one more foot of lift on that pass to Harper, then Todd Lyght doesn't snag it and we beat ND.
Ah, the memories...
Come fellas, let's make some more!
