I hate Vanderbilt because everything about them sucks....
they're located in Nashville and that sucks

Their fans are some of the biggest idiots ever... they suck

Their stadium sucks

Their basketball gym is a dung heap... it sucks

Kevin Stallings, James Franklin, Gerry Dinardo, Watson "doggone it" Brown, Paul Hoolihan, Jay Cutler, Barry Goheen, Will Perdue.... all really suck

I hate those bastards

Yeah, but all I have to do is remember how Florida was a doormat of a program before Spurrier then I don’t hate you guys as much. Your tradition is only relevant for about the last 25 years.......oh, and you guys invented Gatorade, which is nothing but another sugar filled fruit drink branded as “rehydrating”, so congrats on that I guess.

The original Stokley-Van Camps lemon lime was awesome.

And it's sweetened salt water.

Our only football rivals are Bama and UF. I hate Bama the most. Vandy isn't a rival. Just a school that is in our state. It isn't even the closest SEC school to Knoxville. We might as well call MTSU a rival.

Saw Saban in sears store in Nashville the other day. Asked him what brought him to Nashville, He said he heard Sears had a sale going on. Little boys paints half off. Creepy to say the lest .

Little boy paints half off you say...... I never figured Sabsn was into art

Well Vandy has beaten the Vols 4 out of the last 6.... so there's that. Come to Nashville for a while and subject yourself to these arrogant a-holes and whether you consider them a rival or not.... you'll hate the SOBs

Been since the late 70's for me. It was Alabama until Spurrier showed up in Gainesville, then all bets were off, Florida became the most hated and still is today.

It mostly has to do with their fans. Obviously I know a few that are actual fans, but most I know are just big talking jerk wads that have little to no knowledge or respect for the game. Most can't tell me who the Head coach is. They can't tell me when they last won a National Championship because they don't care. I hate them because of it.

I wish I hated Alabama more. I also understand how my hate for Florida seems immature and petty, but I can't help it. Fuggum.

This is exactly me also Behr,I started watching around '77 or '78. I learned quickly about the rivalry and took my rightful place with our fans.
Once divisional play started and we started losing every way possible to the Gators they surpassed Bama.
Now I still wanna beat Bama just as much as ever but I can't put into print what I want the team to do to the Gators.

I go a couple time a year when I go see my daughter at MT. I don't think I have ever met a real live Vandy sports fan. Some alumni sure. I have never dealt with their fans though. Maybe that would change my opinion. If my girl gets into Vandy Med School I guess I will deal with them.

I know the record. Someone beating us a few times during our crappiest stretch doesn't make them a rival to me. I think we will be back to another 20 plus game streak or at least winning 17 of 20 starting this year.

Even with the wins all I think of is the streak and then still barely pulling wins out against our worst teams ever when it comes to Vandy.

I think proximity to Nashville or Vandy fans influences if you consider them a rival. I have never seen a Vandy fan outside a stadium. lol

The fans they do have will run the mouthes nonstop and talk some of the most ridiculous trash when they're competitive with the Vols. Back in the 80's up through the early 90's it could get really nasty over on West End. I was on the top row on the 50 opposite the press box in '91.... I think... Vols clinched the Sugar Bowl with a win.... early in the 4th the Vandy fans beside me started brawling with some Vols fans in front of them ... huge fight... Crown Royal bottle was thrown... target was missed and it went 10-12 rows down...it was wild.

Dinardo's first year was ugly too... huge brawl between the teams before the game

Pretty close to how I feel. That one trip I made to Gainesville in the early 90s left a bad taste in my mouth, and Spurrier was a real pr!ck towards UT when he coached there.

that was a good day my friend..... I had a sugar cube for the longest time when I was a kid that I had saved from that day. If you remember we were throwing sugar cubes on the field to commemorate the upcoming USF&G Sugar Bowl invite.
Even better was the ‘94 game. I was attending BGA which was essentially a college prep school for Vanderbilt.Vandy was decent that year by their standards and TN had a fairly underwhelming season. There were only 2-3 UT fans @ my school and all week they were talking that trash that their candy arsed fans were known for. Ran into a few of them before the game. By the 3rd quarter with the Vols up somewhere around 50 points I naturally went looking for my “Friends”, but they were nowhere to be found. Final score 65-zilch!! That was a glorious Monday morning for a 16 year old orange blooded male such as myself :eek:lol:

My hatred of Florida surpassed Alabama in the early 90s and has remained there ever since. I found out watching the NC game that my hatred of Georgia has passed Alabama as well now.

It’s funny but it really is somewhat a generational thing. I would say for most of the younger Vols to maybe 30-40 year old crowd it’s something like UF, BAMA, UGA maybe not quite in that order but still those 3. The 40-60 crowd is BAMA always , UF then UGA pretty much in that order. You will find that a lot of the 65+ crowd will have Vandy right in the mix and in many cases right there @ the top. My grandfather who is 88 went to his first live Vols game in 1945, and coincidentally the final was 45-0 Vols. He has Vandy at the top of his list and it’s not even close!!! George Cafego had a hatred of Vandy also that was legendary!!

I'll be 50 later this year and it's Florida/Georgia with Alabama in 3rd.

Bama.

If you've been a Tennessee fan for more than 30 years, chances are good it's Bama.

If you've been a Tennessee fan for 10-25 years, it's probably Florida.

If you've been a Tennessee fan for 2-3 years, heck, it might be Vandy or South Carolina.

But for me, it is and always will be Bama.

Very astute observation. I tend to agree. I'm younger, but old enough to remember the 80s
