The team just quit...

Was hoping butch could turn it around but these issues have been here the whole time he has been our coach. Also the secondary has been bad the whole time.

Listen I’m not defending Butch but what he as done up until last season was impressive the problem is when the pressure is on , Butch can’t handle it . Teams typically feed off their coach and what see is exactly that

Not calling you out, but I have to ask the question, what does the statement "Butch's teams play hard for him" mean? I see that said from time to time and it doesn't really make sense to me. I see the team playing hard for the team, in spite of Jones. Not playing for hard for him. I can't imagine there are many aside from Jumper who feel like he's a football mastermind and a coach worthy of putting it all on the line for.

This is a good question. "Who are these guys playing for?". Butch would have us believe that he has key "leaders" that mentor the younger players. Huh? Are these players playing for various "leaders"? What happens when these leaders get hurt or fail. Are these players now leaderless? I just don't get why Butch would tribalize the team unless he can't lead the team himself.

The players hate him and have since the 2nd year

Yeah. He's the reason the receivers were bad, UT couldn't run the ball, Kelly fumbled, Robertson choked a snap, etc....

He played poorly but NO ONE on that O played well. No one.

But that's not the worst problem....

The Jones "system" doesn't work. Remember when he was "searching" for an OC. That was his opportunity to bring in someone with a system that did work. He doubled down on what he believes in... and it FAILED.

His "system" is apparently difficult to execute. It does NOT create run lanes. It does NOT get receivers open. It does NOT help a QB execute his job. The only time this O worked is when Dobbs could make up for its failures by bailing out bad plays with his legs.

This loss... reflects Jones "whole body of work".

Thought the defense played hard. Just got left on the field too long. Offense just failed to execute anything and that starts with the QB. Dormady threw short of and behind receivers all day allowing GA DBs to have a chance to make a play on the ball. Threw into double and triple coverage multiple times. He's regressed and just doesn't fit the system. And why did Shoop wait until the fifth game of the season to start applying pressure and play an aggressive, attacking style D?? The decision making process by this staff makes a change inevitable as well as a pile of losses this season. Mizzou may be our only SEC win.

butch is totally at fault for this loss, and the state of the program.

But, i take issue with you saying "the team quit". The d played there guts out tonight. It's not their fault they were gassed and got no help. Some of the guys on o were going just as hard too.

The team didn't quit! They were just woefully under prepared, and badly coached. Say anything you want about the staff. This is on them.

I refuse to put this debacle on our players in any way!

After the (alleged) locker room incident last week and yesterday's performance I'd say he's lost the team. They could've fought through and at least scored some points but the will was broken. Moreover, I took the lack of help that JG got from the sidelines after they finally put him in as an indication that the coaches have given up on the players, at least on some of the players.

Absolutely true on all accounts

Did you ever see any WR open?

I can only remember a few times the WR have been open since Butch got here. Remember when Pacman Jones laughed when he saw our receivers lining up and asked who taught them that stupid stance they used to do?

Defense I thought played well but hard to not score 41 on them when your offense goes 3 and out 90% of time and we have turnovers.

yep Qd missed wide open receivers all day
If you're defending Butch, defend the fact we didn't make a QB change...

reality was Ga Dbs covered TN WRs like paint. They were all over the WRs and they couldn't get open. reasons are 1) poor route running and 2) poor game planning. they could have had Manning and Montana at qb but there wouldn't have been much in the passing game yesterday. QD made a very stupid pass on play 1 and is a duck out of water in this offense but a qb change to JG would have done nothing.

"We have seven opportunities left that we're guaranteed..." - from post game presser.

Butch just told us he is guaranteed the season.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see what happens next. We will lose every game but southern miss. The wheels have fallen off . there won't be a coaching change until butch finds another job. Its going to take an empty neyland stadium.

From the first snap I knew. Offensive line not moving forward, receivers not come toward the ball. It was clearly evident.

Even the team that lost to Kentucky under Dooley played harder than we did today. For him to say we need to look at the film is BS.

You just need to look in the mirror to find the problem Butch.

We targeted Hands of Stone Smith twice in the first half, just could not find a way to even consider tossing the ball Callaway's way, one of our recognized dynamic playmakers, at all. When has Josh Smith EVER caught a contested ball in very tight one on one coverage? The silliness this staff uses with our players is almost criminal IMO.

Georgia 2015, that was a pretty tough catch.

Dumbassery statement. We would've been in the game if Dormady didn't suck so bad.

exactly.....and i think they quit after cont to see dormady come out series after series......the defense that is.

this team is divided. the defense does not want to see dorady at qb any longer. the offense has been trained around dormady, which is why they play like crap when JG comes in.

yes he is

It happens in little league all the time and with the same results. When you try to make 4-5 kids/parents happy, you lose the other 15 kids on the team. TN is just like that right now but on a much larger scale. It can be fixed but Butch has to get out his own way and play whoever Earned the spot. (but he won't)

After reading this thread, you would think JG is showing all the signs of being great in this system and under this staff, and is just being pissed on.

The "daddy ball" idea could be correct, but its not that obvious that JG is taking this team anywhere else.

JG's attitude is terrible too. It looks like it's happening on both sides of the ball. I think it started with Hurd last year. Butch tried to fit the offense to Hurd and in turn, Butch sacrificed team unity/success to make him happy and he still quit.

FYI...I don't believe JG is ready either but QD is not the right QB for Butch's offense.
