The Takeaways from BG

Great analysis. Very level headed unlike the over the top drivel I've seen posted for the past day. My only problem is that I think you're giving SC too much credit on offense. I'm at school here and everyone is terrified about how bad their passing game will be. I agree we should worry about OU but I'm not sure we will see a passing attack like that outside of these first two games.

You hit the nail on the head. You throw it up long enough times you will connect. Some passes were perfectly thrown and even the best DB would not break it up. Passes also came out fast preventing a good pass rush. Disrupting the timing at the line of scrimmage is the only way to defend a hot passer and good receivers when DBs are on an island like they were yesterday.

Watching the game again, I noticed that they didn't get as many of those deep throws after the half. I believe they only scored 3 points after the 10 minute mark of the 3rd qtr. Seems like they might have made some effective adjustments... refreshing when I look back over the last 15 years or so.

I was really impressed with the BG quarterback. I honestly thought it was going to be a Chuckie Keeton situation and he was going to be overrated, but he was legit. He made some great throws that would have been tough for a lot of SEC DB's not named Sutton or Hargreaves to defend. That being said, I am a little concerned with our secondary. Mose got the same two plays ran on him twice in a row and got beat both times, that's not good. I'm sure Coach Martinez being gone definitely effected a lot of the communication and other factors AND it is the first game of year, so I believe it's too early to write them off just yet. LOVE the heart I saw out of TK coming back after his surgery and the secondary really seemed to get in a better groove when he was back there and we made some adjustments in the second half. I really think we didn't show a lot of stunts or anything than our most basic (talking about pumpkin spiced basic) of packages along the defensive front on purpose, so I'm hoping it's v not foretelling about what we can do the rest of the way. I would love to see Kirkland Jr start against OK, Jumper's just not athletic enough to be as good a playmaker.

Offensively, we're going to be fine. Kamara is the real deal Holyfield and I'll be excited to see what he can do this year. Also love Thomas at center. He's just more athletic and gives us more options, which is never a bad thing.

I think we're going to find out all we need to know about this team come Saturday and I'm sure that playing in a checkered Neyland stadium will give us a heck of a spark and home field advantage. Let's roll boys.

Medley missed from 42 and 29. He's 1 for 7 in FGs longer than 40 yds. That's a problem that has carried over from last year. He needs a Kicker Whisperer before he costs us a close game.

Our secondary is def better when TKJr is on the field. If we can get Martin back and keep TKJr, Sutton and Randolph healthy, we can hold up to most teams. MAbernathy is young, but I expected Moseley to be improved. Not sure what was up with Evan Berry. Maybe he and Moseley just had a bad game?

We don't have a good answer at MLB. Hopefully, Kirkland can jump the learning curve, because we need him now.

We have skill players all over the field. They will only get better.

I'm not ready to write off the D yet. There were a number of times (maybe even half) where we were in good defensive position on a pass and the QB threw the perfect ball. Also, Deiter was pushing off on many of his completions and should have been called for PI.
