They don't want to read this. They want to read stories involving tossed excrement and little old ladies being hurled to their deaths from the top row of the east stands. They want stories of being kidnapped and held prisoner in abandoned well under a single wide and having their back skin made into "Go Gator" lampshades.
I sincerely hope your livelihood doesn't involve fortune telling or comedy because you would be homeless and posting this from a compter at the public library..
This thread turned out much differently than I expected.
Fact is, just about all rival fans have been heckled on road at some point. It happens. Hell, LSU fans are notorious for running across the street just to get in your face and scream "TIGAH BAIT!!!!" two inches from your nose. These same fans will invite you to their tailgate if you handle yourself properly. If you have a chip on your shoulder or you don't like people yelling at you, then SEC road games just aren't for you.
Throwing beer and spitting are inexcusable. However I've also found that these types of incidents are rarely without some sort of prior verbal confrontation. I've never seen an unassuming rival fan minding his own business walking down University Avenue get doused with beer or spat on...if some $h!t goes down chances are both parties had a hand in escalating the confrontation.
The Swamp definitely isn't for everyone, and our students aren't always eagle scouts and altar boys. But the same can be said of just about every student body in the conference.....except maybe Vanderbilt. If you're quick to anger or ultra sensitive, you're better off staying home.
You act as if it's a privilege to go down to that trash town
Uh oh, looks like I'm being stalked again.....
And you completely missed my point, unless you just wanted to flame. What I posted just now applies to Gainesville, Knoxville, Tuscaloosa, Columbus, Norman, Blacksburg or any big time college football venue.
If you want to get into a confrontation, it's very easy. If you want to avoid a confrontation, it's as easy as you want it to be.
It's not bad like it was when the student section was behind the players. Then it was very, very bad. So bad the SEC made a rule saying the student's couldn't be behind the opposing team, strictly for the events that happened at Florida.
Heath Shulers first job as a freshman was putting on his helmet and shielding Andy Kelly from the rocks/bottles and bags of excriment thrown at him. That was on one of the DVD's (I think their "quarterbacks" DVD). That was from Shuler himself.
Vicky Fulmer was groped and had her dress ripped by the students down there per the Chattanooga News Free Press. I'm sure Mrs. Fulmer didn't do anything to "provoke" that.
It wasn't just when UT came to town from my understanding, the bags of urine and feces were from the student section not average fans and I don't think they cared which opposing team it was.
That's why they made the rule (at least according to the Free Press that is) .
I haven't heard of our team having much trouble since that rule came into effect.
Yeah, you forgot to mention they also lit the winning cigar for you and decided you were so special that you should just stay at their place for the night and will be willing to sing Rocky Top at there house with you and all their other Gator fans as you all went to church the next morning together. Get a grip. I was there also in 2001 and I will say I also did not have any problems at all with any of the fans - a little ribbing back and forth and the "Swamp" bar throughout the wknd but that is expected anywhere you go - you have your drunk dbags in every college town and as long as you dont instigate or antagonize then you should be fine. I have heard stories, but they are in every SEC school not just UF.
