The Supreme Court of the United States Thread

We’ve had a freely elected (not appointed) black president and a sitting black female vp. Is there ever a destination concerning race where we can say we’ve finally arrived at a place where folks aren’t prevented from achievement due to their skin color?

They are both mixed/bi-racial FWIW. Skin color should factor into nothing though IMO. Best person should be chosen on their merits alone.

IDK I was just pointing out for most of the time the SCOTUS has been in existence segregation and discrimination has kept black women from the opportunity to get the qualifications. Most supremes are Ivy League alumns and it was the 40's or 50's before the first black woman ever graduated from one of those schools.
Do think that only having so many Justices from Ivy League schools is actually a good thing? I personally don’t believe that it makes them more qualified. It only creates a stagnant court that can only come up with opinions that are far from understanding how it affects the populous.

My immediate push back would be that you believe those attending ivy leagues are disconnected from the real world. You don't know that. Tons of grads are on full rides at those schools bc the endowments are so large.

I think having the majority of justices come from the Ivy League is a terrible thing. I think lifetime appointments are a terrible thing, I think congress needs to get off it’s ass and reign in the Supreme Court and end their assumed power of judicial review.

I also think the senate should confirm this nominee ASAP.

The current nominee would seem to support this.

The fact that 8/9 and like 11 of the past 13 all went to two law schools seems like we are weighing those two schools too heavily.

The WH is dragging their feet to show sufficient records for Biden's SCOTUS nominee.
The Democrats have to hide records & lie each time one of their nominee's is asked to confirm.
What is it with Democrats having to hide records & be so dishonest w/the public & Senators?
Democrats have learned the art of how to cheat the best to get their programs passed.
Jackson comes up starting today for 4 days of hearings before the Senate.

Grassley: We Still Haven't Seen Sufficient Records for Biden's SCOTUS Nominee

But they ain't smart and will do the exact opposite of what they should do.
No, smart they are not.

The Democrats are usually better at these plays - They should be going out of their way to goad the Republicans into a fight. They might already be doing that.

And if the Republicans were smart, they would make this confirmation hearing as smooth, swift, and respectful as possible.

Confirm this Justice today, get back to the real business at hand.
100%. Let the President have his pick and as long as there's nothing egregious in their background, confirm and move along.

I read an article that stated that 2/3 of all fed judges sentence below fed guidelines for sex offenders. Especially first time offenders.

Sex offenders really casts a wide net. Child sex offenders, in the other hand, is far more narrow in scope. And if she was being more lenient on the sentencing of same, she should be answering as to why.

We aren't talking about a county judge here. Some things need to be clarified or explained before they hit the highest count in the land.

I would agree with you if it weren't for this particular judge's judicial history with sex offenders, particularly child sex offenders.

Then you do not understand my point.

If she stood on the Senate floor and declared war on the 2A while burning a copy of the Bill of Rights - I would vote to confirm her today
