As a native born son of the Great State of Tennessee, forced by career to live in exile in the Land of Mordor, where the shadows lie (also know as Alabama), i have been befuddled by a strange phenomenon this day. The usual plethora of Bama car flags have absolutely disappeared off of all automotive transport. vanished into thin air. Store clerks and passers by on the street wear no houndstooth or crimson. I have yet to hear a single Roll Tide today. And the usual banter of social media posts from the local Bama faithful have died away into abject silence.

I am seriously considering calling the local authorities for welfwelfare checks on some of my Bama friends.

It is really bizzare. It feels like one of those Twighlight Zone episodes where the man finds himself all alone in an abandoned world of empty shops and homes.

Has anyone else had any contact with the suddenly elusive Bama fan! Normally they are thicker than mosquitoes at a blood drive tent down here. But today...they. are. All. Gone.

If Bama fans truly thought any thing other than what happened was going to happen, they grossly under estimated Joe Burrow, and the rest of a LSU team that no one should volunteer to play.

Think about how uniquely ill-prepared that fanbase is not just to have a bad team, but a good team that isn't quite good enough to win the SEC or make the playoff. There will be a ton of them jumping off bridges after a 10-2 season, much less a 7-5 or worse season. They've been so dominant for so long that a big chunk of their fanbase now, especially younger fans, hasn't experienced a CFB season where Alabama hasn't been a player for a national championship. Only 2 out of Saban's 12+ seasons at Alabama have they not been a factor in the national title hunt towards the end of a regular season (2007 and 2010). And nobody was really expecting them to do anything in 2007, so you can't really even count that one.

Just imagine how they'll handle a repeat of the 2010 season, which was a good season, but they had (gasp) three conference losses (including 2 to LSU and Auburn). If they lose to Auburn this year, it wouldn't surprise me if there were claims from some more legitimate voices (not just idiots on Twitter who are probably trolling) that Saban has "lost it" and needs to retire. I mean, God forbid they have to go 2 years without a national title, right?

Trump jinxed him. Everything that man touches dies
Oh my. Are you one of those people who thinks it actually makes a bit of difference who the figurehead in the oval office is? I am old enough to have finally figured out that it is all Kabuki theater. If they are in Washington, they ain't sitting up there thinking about me. The only people who really benefit are the lawyers and the beaurcrats. They remain no matter which team is temporarily the "winner". Either way, I refuse to let my friendships be determined by who they vote for or against.

I share the general outlook of that great political philosopher Roger Daltry
