The State of NASCAR - What do you think?

Thats part of nascar's problem, trying to please those who didn't give a crap about them when the series was considered nothing more than a redneck sport in the south. That and rubbing elbows with all the lefty idiots out west, are part of the reason the sport is failing as a whole. The commericalization and stupid disney gaffs, ex racers singing boggity, boggity, boggity, glorified go-carts (COT) is all enough to make me want to puke anymore.

While they may have picked up casual fans all over the country, I have a feeling that a lot of those people simply jumped on the bandwagon because it was the "flavor of the month" at the time, and will sooner or later jump off. Meanwhile, NASCAR continues to make move after move that alienates the die hard fans that are the lifeblood of the sport. These types of fans have been around for decades, and helped NASCAR hit the big time over the last 10 years, and to toss them aside in exchange for more diverse fans in bigger markets is incredibly shortsighted on NASCAR's part in my opinion.

I don't find myself glued to the tv every Sunday afternoon anymore. I don't really know what to tell them to change to fix it though. I record it on the dvr and ffwd through the commercials and infomercials and any parts that get boring. I can watch a 4 hour race in a little over 2 hrs and don't really miss anything...

That's pretty much what I've found, and I too am not really sure what it is. Something about it has just changed, and not for the better. You are right about the commercials though. Each week you are lucky to see 10 green flag laps without going to commercial.

I remember looking forward to coming home sunday afternoons to watch the race....I watch the race half the time anymore. Almost everyweek your going to be watching the same boring races with the same driver running up front. Then of course you have the races like Talladega where whoever wins is who is up front at the time, instead of who has the best racecar.

I didn't want to start a thread just to find out. Does anyone know if Khane will have the new dodge engine at pocono?

Kinda on the fence about using him at Pocono. The new engine supposedly has mad horsepower but will it last 500 miles on those long straights.
