Lucas acknowledges it. He just disavows any association to it and wouldn’t allow any redistribute it.

Stuff You Should Know did a great podcast on it.

Mark Hamill had been in a bad car accident prior to filming this and that's why it looks like he's wearing about 10 pounds of makeup.

Also the first appearance of Boba Fett.

I worked in a comic shop in late 90s and we would sell bootleg VHS copies. This was back when you had to let the tape play to dub it on another recorder. I probably “watched” this 20-30 times.

I showed to my kids a couple years ago thinking I may start a tradition of forcing them to watch it every year.... I couldn’t do that to myself LOL.

Pretty sure Hamill is wearing a wig in this as well. Carrie Fisher was all coked up during the making of this, as she would admit years later. Harrison Ford mostly just stares at the floor in shame lol.

What kills me the most is the opening 12 minutes of wookie dialogue and NO subtitles LMAO! What the hell were they thinking?? The "wookie porn" at about the 30 minute mark is pretty head scratching too.

One review of this special said "The Star Wars Holiday Special was written by a sentient bag of cocaine." Lmao!!

I like how Lucas in the past is acting like he just basically licensed this out and had almost nothing to do with it, yet people on set and involved in production all say he was heavily involved in the dailies for shooting.

He’s obviously had incredible ideas, but needed other people to help rein in those ideas for better storytelling.

Yep, which is what he had in the original trilogy. In the prequel trilogy, he had a bunch of yes people around him telling him how great he was and everything was just awesome.

Exactly. The Clone Wars animated series took the good ideas that Lucas had from the prequels and turned them into great storytelling.

There is a video of Lucas doing a test screening with his yes people. After he sort of questions himself if parts of it “went too far”. His lackeys all say “no no it’s great!”

If someone only had a spine we MAY have gotten a better prequel trilogy.
