The Spike and Botched Illegal Participation Penalty on the spike play (merged)

I didn't have the ability to replay and double check, but I thought they had the same 11 players from the prior play get in their stances, and then they had three or four players run out on the field, turn around, and run back to the sideline.

Both the K State/Syracuse game and our game were officiated by Big 10 crews. Mark May, Lou Holtz and the other guy for ESPN didn't seem pleased with their officiating in either game.

The refs are enforcing the rules in place. There should be a 10 second run off in college for situations like this.

JJ's hit was dirty and #42 should have been flagged for a personal foul prior to the chaos.

UT's defense is its own worst enemy right now.

Don't disagree much. But I do here. It was a football play. His only play was to try and knock it loose. (which it appeared he did). The replayed showed the contact coming from the shoulder pad and not the helmet.

Was it a tough lick? Yes.

Illegal? No way.

They didn't call the second one, (which was a PF) cause they screwed that one up.

I've looked at it again, and I know for a fact there is 12 players "participating" in the play.

Has anyone actually counted the players (excluding the ones who were headed off the field) to see that there were more than 11?

the kicker and holder were in place behind the QB.

Dooley should've known that rule and blasted the officials about it while they were calling it then.

Not a Dooley defender by any means, but I can't even imagine what was going on in that situation. He had to get his players back on the field, the refs were explaining to him everything, etc.

There were 4 guys that had barely gotten past the numbers running toward the sideline when the ball was snapped.

Does anyone have a screen shot?

These two crews and the replay guys should never be allowed to work another college game. Maybe pee-wee scrimages. WHat's worse is Hammy bought out the NC contract so no chance to kick their butt next year. Rats!

Assuming the guys running off aren't considered participating, I only see 10 players.
