Not only is this team young but the staff, particularly on offense, is young as far as knowing what it takes to win in the brutal SEC. Our OC, like Butch, has coached in 10 SEC conference games. We are 2-8 in those games. That must change. Our offensive staff obviously is still learning. Janeck, Thig and Martinez on the D side have been through the SEC wars with other teams. I don't think its coincidence that our D is performing more at a winning SEC level that the O.
The O staff needs to show some growing pains, as do the players. The young but talented receivers played young yesterday. The OL took a step back. The OC did not call a good game yesterday. He called a good game at UGA. UTC will be a glorified scrimmage, then the stretch that will define the season starts. This team needs its fans to stay behind them now more than ever. They are giving their all for Tennessee. They know more than us that yesterday was a game we should have won......
I am a firm believer that Butch Jones is the right guy to run our program. No matter how this season turns out that wont change for me.

I agree with what you said about the defensive side of the ball. A high school coach would have moved the pocket and called screens and slants all night on Florida . I'm ashamed of our coaches after letting these kids get destroyed 3 games in a row on the o-line and yet they refuse to change (notice we put points up on Georgia but the game plan yesterday was vanilla)

Well said vol81, Oline will determine the season. I am worried to see Bama, Ole Miss and Mizzou's Dlines against this line. The offense is handcuffed by not being able to run or drop back pass without getting Worley killed. I was convinced we would make a bowl game but after watching our blocking keep stepping back, I am not so sure.

Is Dontavious Blair that bad that he cannot break into the line up. Our tackles are getting abused and Jashon cannot pick up a stunt. Need some serious coaching in the next two weeks.

Pittman would have these guys playing a hell of a lot better

I totally support Butch Jones. Love our coach. We need some SEC caliber linemen. Their coming. I am also very interested in what Coach Doug Mathews will say this morning on his radio show about this. Coach Matthews said a few weeks ago that this Oline is too small and not strong enough to be good in the SEC. The best he hoped for was for them to be serviceable until we get better, bigger, stronger Olinemen in. Jack Jones is coming.:)

The sec is not a league for learning on the fly, its been proven time and time again especially here at UT. I like Jones but he may have to take a longggg look at the offensive side of this staff during the off season, if not I really don't know how long he will last. But on a side note this defense is impressive but this team has 2008 written all over it.

You need ways to compensate for your weaknesses, and we didn't have any. Worley doesn't run the ball off the "read-option"--which is weak running scheme, based on what I've seen--and he is not mobile enough to scramble and make some yards when pressured. Also, I agree with whoever above said we should have been throwing slants all day and how mixing in some screens, though frankly they probably wouldn't have worked as florida was quick to the ball and tackled well. Still, North is our big guy, and he has to get more than 4 catches in this game. That's a fact. Our running game suxed, we had to get the ball to the big WR more than 4 times. Howard made some nice catches, but we made no big plays in the game. You need people to make plays, and it was particularly bad given that we had three picks. It was an abysmal offensive performance--and a Dooley-like loss for Jones.

Good post!
I firmly agree that Butch is the right man to lead the program back to prominence, but any unbiased observer has to conclude that the OC is not getting it done.

Stop the insane WR Screens: We are throwing 30 yards just to pick up three. WR Screens are based on the assumption that a lone defender can not tackle in space. Breaking NEWS: Good SEC teams can tackle in space. Our big advantage is our WR corps. Put in quick routes across the middle, get the ball to our big WR's and give them an opportunity to get YAC.

Fix the Damn Running Game: Ok, I get it, our O Line can't block. Then, stop teaching them zone blocking. Teach them combos or trap blocking. This should give them success at the first level. Put in a Power I. If the lead blocker can get to the second level clean, Hurd should annihilate any safety (SS or free). Another plus: this would open up the play action pass.

I understand Butch's tendency to embrace the system, but if the system ain't working, you have to adapt to your personnel, e.g., Auburn.

Yep. North needed many more touches. He was not targeted enough. Worley just will not keep the ball. Not sure why.

The sobering truth is that we don't have the personnel to fix this Oline right now. I have my doubts this offense will work here. We're going to need more dynamics out of the QB position and the RB if it ever does. Maybe someone to actually block would be nice as well. I don't like the scheme and this OC calls bad plays from time to time. Plays that make no sense.

Worley is what he is. He's average at best and had a awful game yesterday.

Did our coaches completely miss on Blair? He was one of the top rated JC offensive linemen in the country and can't play over a guy that whiffs every time a defensive end rushes the QB. Something wrong with this picture.

I'm missing Jim Chaney's Offense now.

Looks like it. They were counting on him to be a starter this year. Now he will be a redshirt. Can't pickup the scheme evidently.

Scared to run. Until he does though, there will be no running game since the defensive ends will continue to pinch in and make it impossible to run between the tackles. Our coaches are getting paid millions of dollars and we are paying $80 for tickets and deserve better than this.

The truth is Worley was what kept this team from getting blown out against OU or UGA

This! Letting Pittman go is turning out to be a huge mistake

And Chaney! He has Arky offense playing much better. For the life of me I don't understand why you install an offensive scheme without the type of players that can execute it.

We had better be prepared for one of our worst losing seasons ever.......If Butch does not change up a few things, I doubt it will get better as time goes on.
