It's also the best team State has had in years and they are coming off 8 wins, and we are coming off a game in which we quit against an sec opponent we killed for 26 years. We don't have experience and depth at every position, that is flat out wrong. We are woefully thin at LB, oour backs are unproven at best, and we're counting on a guy that's coming off major knee surgery and one that hasn't played a down of SEC football to catch passes for us. Oh, and we're being led buy a guy who hasn't beaten a decent team since he began coaching.
But we're all hopeful, aren't we?
I just wish PosiVols would tone the enthusiasm down a bit. We haven't won anything of significance in 3 or 4yrs. Why blow-up expectations to unreasonable proprotions. The NCST game ISN'T a gimme. God forbid we win that game, this website might just meltdown.
where have you been the last 5 years. nothing is a given here at UT. NC State is not as bad as most people on here are stating. remember we did lose to UK and im pretty sure that state is better than they are. plus we still have dooley as coach and it seems he finds more ways to lose games than win them.
Having taken a look at their roster, I do not believe their D is more talented than UK's was when they beat UT. I think some of you vastly overestimate what it takes to be 41st nationally (14 places behind UT) in total D while playing ACC competition and OOC games vs Liberty (FCS), S Alabama (FCS), Cincy (hammered by a healthy UT team before they hammered NCSU), and Central Michigan (3-9).
They are proud of their secondary which led the nation in INT's. They were 61st in pass D and allowed three more passing TD's than UT.
This is not a shoo in. I think it almost was with DR but he changed things. However it is still a game that UT SHOULD win.

Where are all the rational people in the middle. This place seems to have only 2 types of fans: Folks "Walkin' on Sunshine" or looking to "Shoot a man in Reno just to watch him die."
Da'Rick Rogers is gone Yes but we have a stable of WR talent we'll be fine as long as, JH stays healthy and CP stays healthy, and is AT LEAST HALF, as good as advertised. LaTroy Lewis is hurt Yes BUT we have W. Bohannon, Jordan Williams, Fugate, Sapp and Crump! we are fine! we beat NC ST (NC ST 17 TENNESSEE 31) Go Vols!!!! 4 MORE DAYS!!!opcorn:

Lewis looked like a RS any way. UT has concerns at WR with the loss of DR. ZR, JH, and now VD again are the only ones with experience. JH is a #1 WR but is coming off an ACL. ZR is a good but not great player who needs to catch everything that comes close... but doesn't. Dallas was a very good blocker but didn't catch many passes... meaning DB was probably the right call. We don't know how the new comers will do when the lights come on. CP has the hype and the talent but we don't know.
It is no more helpful to deny concerns than to exaggerate them like some here do.
man i cant believe so many people think we wont beat nc state. i think we just flat out drill them. this is the best team we've had in years. we have expierence and depth at all most every position...finally
Rb: no one proven
Fb: one player there who isn't very good
Te: one player there due to injuries/off field
Wr: one proven player, one hyped, and every one else is unproven
Lb: outside of starters we have crap. Paper thin
Secondary: a few proven players, mostly unproven though
Yeah, you're right when you say we have depth.
No. And I don't have a love fest with State. In fact, most analysts agree with me that the game will be close.
