The shut down thread

Maybe we can write a bill to address the issues of the people. How about 3 billion for border security, Dreamers get citizenship, halt the visa lottery until a comprehensive overhaul of our immigration system and end chain migration, fully fund the military, fully fund chip.

Get Mexico to pay for it all.

Hmm, your points, while they would make a good soundbite on CNN, fail in so many ways.

Here's my counter-proposal...

Pass a balanced budget that isn't tied to a completely unrelated topic (immigration) and leave that for another time and debate. Your party needs to be careful about dying on that hill. It will cost you again in 2018.

Pass a balanced budget. Are you awake or just going through the motions.

Here's the key issue. Our political system has become increasingly polarized going back to the Clinton years. Politicians no longer seek compromise. They don't even really try. It's all about smearing the other side in order to try and grab more power the next go around. Neither the republicans nor the democrats will budge, because they have midterms coming up and are looking to solidify or shift the power balance, respectively. Both parties try and ram as much poorly thought out, incomplete, irresponsible garbage while they have the balance in their favor, and when the balance swings the other way, they obstruct. In the Obama years, it was the democrats rushing healthcare reform and such with the republicans taking the role of obstructionist. Now, it's the opposite. It wasn't right then, and it isn't right now. The fact is that neither party is truly serving the American people. We're the ones getting screwed, while they ask us to thank them, to donate more money to their campaigns. Sadly, the power elite have convinced us that there are only these two perverted choices. This two party system needs to die. That's the real problem.

I found out last night there are are grown, educated adults that actually believe the military is being furloughed. That there won’t be any alert crews at Air Force bases. Who’s going to launch a counter offensive if North Korea attacks?

This really happened.

Another common misconception is that the active duty military isn’t getting paid.

I see current AD member's on facebook complaining about this. Surprise surprise the one making the most noise is a single mom to two kids from different dads.

Anyone involved in national security or safety is going to be at work today (like me).

Yep. We can look at the high cost of health care and health insurance. This was a problem before the ACA. The ACA was passed then obstructed and we are still paying out the ass but now it is blamed on the ACA without any ideas on how to actually lower the costs for the American people. Just blame the other and do nothing.

A budget that impacts hundreds of millions of people shouldn't be held up because of a couple hundred thousand criminals.

Another reason for very limited government .....

Unfortunately, neither party wants that. Yeah, the republican party tows that line, but really they just want the government in different parts of your life than the democrats. Both parties want to control you.

The Repubes should tell the Dims that when the FISA memo gets released, they will get their Daca. Beings they both have nothing to do with the shutdown.

Schumer will explode.

Do Democrats really think they can blame republicans because they have 51 seats in the senate? That only works with their base - people who never took a civics class

That is why they require 60 votes so they can't just ram what they want down the people's throat.

How about this ..... Bush expanded govt....Bush grew the debt like a mofo..... TN had a democratic governor.... Phil Bredesen..... I liked him...I voted for him.... he was a businessman and fixed a mess made by the previous stool sample Republican, Sundquist.
McCain is a Rep and I think he sucks balls.... same for Lindsey Graham.... Mitch McConnel too

Not very impressive there pickers. Coudn't find any post?

So basically you hate repubs. who aren't as right wing conservative as you are? That's your objectivity?

I hated Clinton and Obama for not moving us into national health care, not raising taxes on the rich more, and not passing more and better regulations on business. (There you go)

You hated Clinton and Obama for not doing more to ruin the country? You’re just a terrible, miserable person.

Do you know why it’s a misconception?

Because people go on news programs and say it.

PBS had some woman on that said military members won’t be getting paid, the commissaries will close, how will these families eat? And everyone just nodded and grimaced at the thought.
