These wall shenanigans are nothing more than a distraction, even Mattis said he gave up on it months ago. Trump is using this wedge issue to control the news cycle and narrative.

He said exactly the same things he's been saying since the shutdown started. Including calling it a crisis. Of course it's going too be hard to justify that it is a crisis when border crossings are at a 40 year low.

You're not wrong. I believe Trump is really out of options, not that he ever had any. His speech didn't move anyone and If he tries the national emergency rout he may get laughed out of office.

He could probably salvage a win if he announced he would sign the pending bill and form a bipartisan committee to study and make recommendations on border security.
