Noticed that we had our QBs in the shotgun a considerable amount of time today. Safe to say we'll be seeing alot more of that this year, I suppose. Didn't Kiffin say at one time he only had Crompton lined up like that 2-3 times all last year?

Yup.............He stated it was a "Pro Style Offense"....QB must be under center to make reads and then evaluate in a 3/5/7 step drop............

Pretty much agree with what everyone has already said....it will be better for our QB with a shaky OL

We will likely need the extra space to even give the QB's a chance to dump it next year. Hello learning curve!

You play to your strengths, or in this case your weaknesses and the shotgun gives the QB more time.

This is Chaney's offense, and he's a shotgun guy, with some offset-I and straight-I plays. We aren't going to use a true spread, but it is being incorporated. Dooley wants to be good at everything.

That's something else i noticed. We were in the offset I a lot. We did a play action out of it a couple times and it looked pretty good.

One thing about pressure and yesterday, don't think that our D-Line is automatically gonna be the greatest thing ever. They have talent, but the White team had 3 potential starters on the D-Line, and the Orange O-Line was not that great. The only way you can tell is 1's versus 1's, and we didn't see any of that yesterday. I honestly liked the format yesterday, but the only way to assess your team is to play 1's versus 1's, IMO.

I definitely agree that we need to get more receivers on the field this year with the depth that we have at that position. For this reason the shotgun makes a lot of sense. However, whether were in the shotgun or under center the best way to ease this line into the SEC is to run the ball early on. Our defense is strong this year and the best way to use that strength would be to have a low risk offense

Shotgun will likely be a big part of the offense so the QB can be as far away from the inexperienced OL as possible. Just my :twocents:

That is certainly the upside ...the downside is that the defense will be playing pass all the way and won't worry about the run as much . Unless a QB can shred a defense from the gun ....it is advantage defense . The ends will pin em back , corners will play off the line .

Lets hope the QBs end up being more than capable if this is the direction we are headed
