The SEC responds to "no call" on Cody/Helmet play

BTW, I agree with lylsmorr. I am done harping on this. I was a great game and like I said earlier, "it is what it is". Time to focus on beating the snot out of USCjr.

His eyes are on the Bama players and then he follows them up to the ball. Wow. I thought there was nothing to this until I watched the youtube. Now I see that indeed the ref pointed it out and looked like he may have even spoke to the bammers as he did it. Cody def had his helmet off while the ball was live and since the game cannot end on a defensive penalty..... This game was odd indeed.

Surprised he didn't take a bama player by the hand and actually guide him to the ball:p
After all, Slive told them to do WHATEVER it takes

The sec is doing all they can to protect alabama and florida, to keep them 1/2 and set up a big title game for more TV money.

the no call was garbage, just like the one they didnt call when we played Bama the week before "that got ignored" Florida and Bama make me sick, I wonder how much they're paying these ref's!!!

good game against Bama, cant wait till 10/31

Get over the helmet call. UT set the play up for time to expire on the kick. The guy made his second block of the game and went nuts. Good for him. Whinning about a ticky tack helmet penalty at that point of the game is just being a sore loser.

Your first thought is that he's throwing a bean bag, but his eyes are focused on the bama player? If you're throwing a bean bag to mark the spot, don't you look where you're throwing it? Also, I don't see a bean bag on the youtube...

Just got an email back from my Bama buddy after sending him the youtube link and pointing out the ref directing the Bama player to the ball.

His response was hilarious.

"We pay for the best officiating available."

Exactly.

He thinks it is funny but is slightly embarrassed by his schools cheatin ways. You know the sort of way many old southerners think. The "well boys will be boys" type of thing.

Not really sure how many times this has to be explained to people who live on the grassy knoll, but the unsportsmanlike conduct (helmet) penalty is a DEAD BALL FOUL. If you'd like me to post the entire section of the rules, I'll do that, since obviously very few UT fans know anything about college football rules. The conduct rules mention taking off the helmet specifically during a live play as a dead ball foul just like "taunting, baiting or ridiculing an opponent verbally."

Again, for all of you who believe the Earth is flat.... These are dead ball fouls EVEN if the play is live. And a dead ball foul is assessed on the NEXT play. In this case, the next play would have been first down ALABAMA. Did you want the officials to clear the field, mark 15 yards off Bama and then give 'em the ball, first down? Because if ANY time had been left, that's exactly what they would have done IF they called the foul in the first place. So get off this crap. You played a great game and you lost.

Go Vols beat SC...

Remind us again why you're here. You tired of all the other stuff to do in that Mecca you choose as home (you know, because you're the man)? You know the rules better than everyone else because you live in NYC? You struggle that someone believes the AL win Saturday was garbage? You suck? You're miserable enough that AL people hate you, as they probably should?

Help us out here?

Yep, that game was garbage. Bama's 8-0, has beaten UT three years running, plays LSU for the SEC West title in two weeks, and I'm really "struggling" over that win. Yeah... right.

I'm here because you have a coach who calls news conferences to blame the refs for his team's own shortcomings, and even throws in a conspiracy theory about headsets.... Wow... "big bad Nick Saban took away our headsets. Oh, woe is us..."

A week before the UT game, Bama received 113 yards in penalties in their own stadium. You didn't hear Saban crying about it. So man up (though that's impossible for you, I know) and deal with it. You lost. Replay that kick a thousand times. Blame the refs for some perceived slight. Talk about re-kicks when you have NO IDEA what you're talking about. And finally, take a look at the scoreboard.

well bamagrad or whatever you are.ok.

i hope each and every vol past, present and future feels slighted by it andtakes it very personally and keeps it in their mind every day so that we strive to play better

Thank you Mr. Know It All. Quick question, on a scale of 1-1000, how big of a meltdown would the bammers have if the situation were reversed?

Your right, Saban was just crying about how is players were tired all week.

I like to celebrate a win by going on an unranked opponent's message board... one of two things is coming nyc... probation or saban leaving you.......... enjoy it before the bama cycle kicks in...

It has been reversed. Bama's lost a lot of close games the last 10 years. But in this case, the game ended with a blocked field goal, not by something the refs did or didn't do. Fine by me if you want to blame the refs for calls they made or didn't call earlier in the game. But on this last play, the refs did nothing wrong. Kiffin should never have mention the Cody helmet thing without reading the rules.

What the SEC is intentionally leaving out to help their case is the rule about play stopping when a helmet is off. Whoops, play should have been stopped immediately, with time on the clock. Since it would have been stopped before the ball was recovered it would have been UT ball, 15 yarder and a rekick. (1. Play stops immediately for safety, they made that rule after some kid kept running and everyone thought he was gonna get killed without a helmet. 2. Non recovered ball goes back to the team last in possession, TN 3. Game can't end on a defensive penalty, untimed down and rekick).

Not that it matters, the kick would have been kicked into our O-lines buttocks, but if you followed the letter of the rules that would have been what it was.
