The SEC responds to "no call" on Cody/Helmet play

No doubt that the Vols are going to be back as contenders in the next few years with the recruiting classes and good coaching. But Lane Kiffin will never "drill" Alabama as long as Saban is coaching. Bama's recruiting classes have been in the top five every year Saban has been there. That's not going to stop just because UT is getting better.

And one correction: The unranked team didn't "miss" three field goals. They missed one. The Bama defense blocked the other two. No "miss" involved.

Follow the lead of the head Bammer Troll and sign off until next year

While you're beating your chest and marking trees with your scent, remember that while Alabama was totally and utterly beat into the ground to a dismal pulp that we put you into a position where in the final 2 minutes of the game (while you only had 3 points) you were forced to have to score a TD, recover an onside kick, drive the field, kick a field goal.

If a team's in that kind of predicament I don't think they were nearly as dominating as you like to imagine they were.

Not once did I say 'Dominate'

I stated verifiable fact : UT out performed Alabama on both sides of the ball

The #1 team in the country should be leading a game like that AT HOME against an unranked team with inferior talent . ...not depending on the unranked teams kicker that has a Quad injury , to win it for them .

saturday , their superior athletes seperated them by 2 points from a rag tag bunch of the walking injured , freshmen , and walkons ...with a few quality athletes sprinkled in . If all things were even ...drilling is probably to kind . All things will be even soon .

Lincoln got blocked , sure , but had it not it woulda hit someone in the back of the head . He missed an extra point not long ago due to the quad injury he has been dealing with for 3 weeks now. I wouldn't waste to much time petting yourself on the back over that ...to those of us that have watched him throughout this injury ...I have doubts he coulda hit it true if Bama had elected to not even take the field.

Think about it real hard ...no touchdowns for Bama . Monte Kiffin on the other side coaching with no real collection of talent to coach . Do you really think it is gonna be better for you guys when he has 11 ballers rather than just 2 or 3 ?
Lane and Chaney , when given the athletes have fielded some of the most prolific offenses in the game . They just had JOHN CROMPTON put 265 yards passing on you guys ....while being protected by 270 lb walkons . Do you see it getting better when they are sending plays in to a real gunslinger that is being protected by real offensive linemen ?

You really need to look at the talent advantage Bama fielded Saturday and what it actually did for them ...2 points is the answer you should have came up with.

Look at the recruiting rankings ...the Vols are going to continue to reel in the talent .

Figure out on your own how this game will look when all things are equal from a talent point of view....which they will be in the next two years.

I'm still wondering what the call was when D.MO tried to make the tackle on the punt return and they called him for a personal foul...ive been watchin football for several years and never heard of that call. He had two bama players coming at him full speed what was he supposed to do, let them bull rush him?

I am.

With that being said, I don't think we got outcoached in either offense nor defense. Your defense is great, ours is too. We gave up less points than you. Crompton played VERY well and because of that he gave his team a chance to win.

Give me a break, we killed ourselves, sure fat cody blocked two but they were kicked directly into him and we missed one Fg that was all on us (the one B4 halftime). We make that 13-12. We put more yards up on your D and held your O to less yards than we put up on O. Pathetic... Can someone say OVERRATED!!!??? But lemme guess, your guys are tired and need a bye? Only thing your boys proved was they can kick field goals... Not 1 td? Championship level by butt. Get ready for another blowout to a Utah-esk team.

Also, go run and tell TideFans that this is how a real forum is ran... If we would go and post 1% that crap you post on VN we'd be banned in an instant... That lame excuse for a site bans at any opposition to their views.

Face it....the train is comming....

Just watched the replay. There was clearly a Bama player in the neutral zone during our false start on the final drive.

So would we have kicked five yards closer had the refs not wanted bama to win? Maybe they were too concerned about locating the ball and pointing it out for the bammers...?

in response to the SEC reasoning, the basic rules state that the game cannot end on a defenses penalty and since this was a live ball it should have been called. I mean come on, if they would of run into lincoln and roughed the kicker the SEC is basically saying since there is no time left, we would not get to kick it again. We are not that stupid Slive. Your excuse = FAIL

I have no argument with most of this. UT played a very good game Saturday, and took it to Bama, especially on defense. And Crompton stepped up when he had to do it. It's not his fault your special teams need help. I have no doubt that UT is on the way back as a contender after what we all saw Saturday, combined with what your team did against UGA.

But to claim, as I've seen some here, that UT is just going to walk over Bama in the future is nonsense. Bama is still fielding a young team. The recruiting classes have been in the top five very year Saban has been there, and they'll continue to be. The games in the future between Bama and UT will be wars, as they usually have been in this series.

Bama won by 2 points Saturday. A couple of dropped balls here, and some play calling there (they should have stayed in the wildcat on the goal line) and maybe they win by more. But they didn't. No excuses, and none needed. They won. I actually think this is the best thing that could have happened to the team. They know how to win when it looks like they've blown it. Championship teams usually face that these kind of games.

Will Bama win the SEC? They have to get by LSU and Florida first. I have no idea. But they've got a great shot, and they still have zero losses on their record. The bye week will help. As for UT, you've got a great shot at winning the remaining games.

Schematically UT is better than Bama, if UT gets talent I do not see it as that much of a stretch. This staff will gameplan more for Bama and Florida more than any other regular season game, so be afraid. That being said, I look forward to many great games on the Third Saturday in October from here on out.

To all the armchair coaches who have dvr, time had expired when Cody removed his helmet. The ball was live until picked up by someone. Time had expired by the time the ball was recovered.:good!:

Your first thought is that he's throwing a bean bag, but his eyes are focused on the bama player? If you're throwing a bean bag to mark the spot, don't you look where you're throwing it? Also, I don't see a bean bag on the youtube...

I'm over it. Our players didn't know where the ball was anyway. They thought that Cody or one of the other players streaking down the field had it.

Have reviewed it over and over and the play had not been blown dead when Cody removed his helmet thus meaning it was still live. Plus you look at the 2 angles and you can clearly see that he removed his helmet before the ball was recovered...so you fail.

It is what it is. I am over it but just sick of all you bamers trying to justify the play to make you feel better about a game you should have lost.

His eyes are on the Bama players and then he follows them up to the ball. Wow. I thought there was nothing to this until I watched the youtube. Now I see that indeed the ref pointed it out and looked like he may have even spoke to the bammers as he did it. Cody def had his helmet off while the ball was live and since the game cannot end on a defensive penalty..... This game was odd indeed.

How do you know that? You can't hear that on the tv ecspecially as loud as it was.

Game's over. Vols played a hell of a game and should have won but special teams left 9 points on the field, enough said. Let's beat the brakes off of the gamecocks now

Wow, nothing like that Alabama education. This is a very simple process. You take the first angle and see that the field judge raises his arms and called the play dead as soon as the bama player falls on the ball and then review the second angle that shows Cody take his hat off. Combine the 2 and you can easy calculate the time bama fell on the ball with Cody removing the helmet. The helmet came off just after the field judge pointed out the ball to the bama player (another discussion altogether). I can offer this up in a simple algebra equation or do they even teach math that advanced at bama. Next.
