The SEC Bandwagon Team Fans

It's cyclical. We ought to be back in contention for for a NC about 2030. Between now and then we can talk about the good old days of Neyland*, Majors and Fulmer*.

* Over a 150 wins and and a NC.

I am as big of a Vol fan as anyone but we haven't owned Florida since the 80's. Winning once every couple of years doesn't qualify as owning a team

I've been a Gator fan since 1962 and I do not ever remember being "owned" by the Vols. I'm not sure where some of you are getting your info from. The Vols may have the better overall record against the Gators but it had to had to be built before the 60's.

As far as bandwagon fans...all schools have them when they are winning and to say the UT has less of them is just foolish. How does a fanbase measure that? Can't be done.

UF is the home of the bandwagon fan.

I doubt there even exists an actual Florida fan.

They all took it to another level, Tennessee decided to count money and do nothing. They're getting what they deserve for it. You can't stay the same when everyone is changing around you, leads to where they are now. Hopefully the smelling salts have been administered and they're waking up now. These last 5 years have been tough.

So what...does that mean you have no bandwagon fans? Every team has bandwagon fans when they are winnng (see da U), but not so much when they are losing (see da U). But don't think for a minute all UF fans only became fans once we started winning. I had to suffer through the first 30 years without a champioship. Btw, other teams have played college football for over 100 years now. Not just Michigan, ND, Tenn, Alabama and Texas. They may have not been as successful in their first 60 years as UT was, but they played.

Believe me, they have some real fans. I have been to TN FL games in Knoxville and Gainesville. When they whipped us in 2007 (I think) in gainesville I was jealous of the pride they had. Hundreds of people in their bars post game suddenly going into the "Go Gators" chant. I have not seen that kind of passion in Knoxville since the 90's. Of course success and a lot of it invokes passion. like it or not, they have certainly had plenty of success lately.

Florida fans are like the internet. They didn't exist 25 years ago.

Auburn fans are like home buyers who got loans backed by Fannie and Freddie. They aren't real sure how they became the owners of their nice little house they have but they know their about 24 months away from having to "give it back" and it's going to be a long, long, long time before they get to own one gain.

And UT fans are like the Ford Edsel...they were relevent 55 years ago. Keep living in the past and you will never succeed in the future.

I think your math is a bit off. I'm sure you realize that and were trying hard to make a point but it really doesn't work

Ok, so I took some liberites....my point is anytime a fan base starts using the, "all time bowl wins, all time winning %, etc, you're living in the past.

Anytime a coach who has health problems at a Florida University it's cause the coach knows he's on a sinking ship. Don't worry Florida fans will soon be quoting past wins. I can tell you from personal experience it is a horrible feeling to know your team is falling out of national relevancy. I can take solace that UT is on it's way back up. Oh, and I am sure Weiss will be on his way out come the next big offer from an NFL team.

You may be right, I have no way of predicting the future. UF hasn't always been on top and I'm sure they will not always be there.

That's why it's college football. When they fall, we can give em hell just the same way they did to us. It makes it more interesting than the NFL.

Things you will never hear a southerner say:
#12-"I don't really have a favorite college football team" :)

All successful teams have down periods and do this so at least we can do that if we have to. Where are the Gators on that list?

All those great years of success you are so proud of and yet still a losing record against those young whipper snappers at Florida... That team that had no fans before 1985. What a joke.

I just don't get how everyone can talk so much crap about UT. We used to kill teams for decades and we were a power house, our fans loved Tennessee Vols and what we stood for! We didn't rag on teams that were down, now it seems every team's fans in the SEC treats us like we are Kentucky! We have been drilling your schools for the past 20 years..Exc( bama and florida) WE have a couple of down years and you guys wanna act like you own us, even when we are down we still give these so called new power houses a run for there money. Weve been kicking tail forever now i cant wait to get back to whipping that A$$:peace2::salute:

Since 1970(the modern era of the SEC) TN is 16-25 against Alabama and 8-19 against Florida, I think thats probably more indicative of things to come instead of anything we did decades ago under Neyland.

Funny how you picked 1970 to start with Alabama. How convenient.

Why not since 1982, where Tennessee has been 15-14?
Why not since 1995, where Tennessee has been 10-6?

Would those be even more indicative of things to come?
