we never reached our ultimate potential. Oh there were flashes...parts of the Memphis game, coming back at Florida, beating Xavier and Gonzaga.
But in the end, this team had the potential to win a championship. I know it's tough to hear right now, but we all know it's true. I remember saying all season long if we could ever have everyone clicking on all cylinders. Lofton, Jajuan, Chism, Ramar, Prince...they were all so inconsistent that we could never tap into the star potential we had. Tyler Smith was easily our most reliable and most consistent player this year, but sadly (for us anyway) he is probably headed to the NBA.
I remember last year when Ohio State won the heartbreaker, I quickly felt better because of what the future held. We had 2 transfers coming in and lost only one player.
I know I know...all we need is another negative thread, but I just had to get this out.
My main point with this thread is to show that you can't take anything for granted and you must seize the chance when it's there. Although hardly any of us realized it at the time, we were much closer to the Elite 8 last year.
The positive part of this is that we had the best season of Tennessee basketball EVER with a team that didn't even play up to their full potential. Let's look at how far UT basketball has come. Three years ago we would have laughed at the idea of UT winning an outright SEC championship and going to back to back Sweet 16s. No matter what Jajuan, Chris, and Jordan go on to do...they will forever be remembered as part of the group who really got things turned around. I know Lofton struggled this year, but none of this would have been possible without Chris. I don't care if he goes to work as a real estate agent or if he goes on to the NBA all-star...my opinion of him remains unchanged. He's a classy player and an even better person.
Let's all be thankful for what we've accomplished and hope for an even better future. Good luck to Chris, Jajuan, and Jordan in the future...
