The Runner's thread

I appreciate any advice. Talked to my dad (avid runner) and based on the pain I was describing he thought that it might be a potassium or water deficiency. Seems legit enough, so I am going to add a multi and force down more water the next couple weeks and see if it helps.

Sounds like a plan. I try to eat two bananas before my runs and the water thing hasn't been an issue for me until the temps started getting hotter. I am trying now get more water in. I might start going back to using some accerlade before runs too. Last summer I started using that to help with leg fatigue. Seemed to work pretty well for me.

Yes, it is worth a shot. I normally drink water, but I guess I may not be drinking enough right now.

Accerlade - a pre-workout type deal?

Yes to before and I normally walk 4 to 5 minutes after to stretch them post.

I run two to three days a week and play bball twice a week. I try to make sure I have at least two rest days and they normally are the day before I run.

Debate on whether prestretch routine helps or hurts. Good to have cool down walk but definitely stretch after walking.

stand on step with one foot. let heel drop and hold for 10-15 secs. repeat 3x for both feet or press mid foot against curb and lean in for 10-15 secs. repeat 3x for each foot.

make sure you stretch with straight knee & bent knee. Also use a rolling pin or buy a Stick to massage your calves in the evenings.

don't expect quick results. it'll probably take couple weeks.

Good advice. If you sweat a lot should definitely drink water or sports drink during the run especially in this heat.

Thanks. I will give this a shot.

I have stayed pretty on point to this point with no real pain anywhere until now. This last couple weeks has made me question what I was doing, so I thought I would ask about it.

Not as fast and young as Heart but I did 5 miles yesterday in 54:28. 3 miles Monday in 30:00. Shooting for another 3 miles today after lifting.

Got in three miles at lunch. Heat index at 102 today.

I hear you, Ho. Not even technically summer yet, and every run is absolutely brutal. The heat index was still at 90 after 11PM last night; very early morning is about the only opportunity to catch a break.

I wish I could get my fat ass out of bed earlier

Made the 3 miles in 29:30. Will shoot for another 5 miles today if my knees hold up. I'm old.:ermm:

VIF are you running on the beach since you live in FL?

Lulz. No. I live about 25 miles from a good beach. I live only about 6 miles from the ocean as the crow flies though. Too hot to run outside right now. Heat indexes upward of 120 degrees.
