The Runner's thread

Been having a pain in my right foot. Only hurts after I run and after I have been sitting down. The pain is only there when I put pressure on it or walk on it. I don't notice any pain during my runs on that foot either. Just wondering if anyone has experienced anything like that. TIA.

Thanks! I feel like I could do quicker if I just ran 1 mile. I planned on running a little more, but it had just rained, and the humidity was eating me alive.

I have been having this problem too. I would like to change when I run so it won't be so hot but my choices are: Get up early (not gonna happen, I get up at 6 anyways for work), or wait till after eight. My problem with after eight is if I go home and sit down... I don't want to get back out to go run. Yeah I know... I'm lazy.

My exams are over, and summer has started. So I am back on the running. I have been out to run 4 times in the last 6 days, and I do feel I already did better on the fourth run compared to the first. However I am not anywhere close to where I was a few months ago. I have put on so much weight while studying it's ridiculous... I can't stop snacking...

Any advice, on how to beat cravings? I keep eating rubbish between meals...

Sounds similar to how my issues started. Search for planter fasciitis. See if the symptoms fit. Its easy to fix if you take care of it. I ignored it, hoping it would get better, and it led to surgery. I still have trouble getting going in the mornings, or if I've been off my feet for a while.

Change your snacks. I will have a tablespoon of almond butter by itself or with some celery. bananas are great or fresh berries mixed with Greek yogurt.

drink more water.

This. If you choose smarter/healthier snacks it won't be as bad. It's actually a good idea to eat six times a day. Three smaller meals with snacks in between.

Fiber one bars for me!

So I have tan everyday this vacation.

Day 1: 10 miles
Day 2: 3 miles
Day 3: 12 miles
Day 4: 5 miles so far

Anybody have any tricks or ideas to help me relax my shoulders and traps during runs? I keep noticing that they are tense when running and it seems to be taking some of my energy and concentration away. TIA.

Thanks for the tips - will have to try this...

Ran again today - 4.5 miles in 45 minutes...

Think about stuff that puts you at ease

I have tried doing that and it works for about five minutes or so. And then slowly they will start to tense back up. I also try to "shake it" out every so often. Drop my arms and shake them around to loosen up. Still only works for a little while. Just wondering if there was a way to keep them loose through out the run.

I always get a sharp twingy pain in my right shoulder while running. The only explanation I can think of is that I carry my water bottle in my right hand...

Very well could be. I don't like running with anything in my hands at all. My hands generally stay pretty loose.

Interesting idea. Not sure if I smile while I run or not. Going to have to pay attention now and see if I smile or not. I going to go with probably not.

I sing while I'm running, and every once in a while I dance, too. Sometimes if there is a low hanging tree limb, I jump up and imagine the tree is high-fiving me. I pretend all the vegetation and wildlife is cheering me on.

These are all things to consider.

I imagine I'm Super Mario running down mountains.
