Makes for a nice tempo run
We've had great running weather this week but that changes today. 30 degree temp drop today, 3 in snow and 50 mph wind gusts expected over the next 24 hrs. My goal is to not miss a run.
What are you using to track your elevation?
Google maps on my phone this time. There is a terrain option that shows the topography lines. I checked it after I was done.
Strava will track elevation but my phone GPS doesn't work well in the woods. It makes me mad when the phone says I ran 3 miles when I know I ran 4.
I'm putting this down here for documentation purposes and to be held accountable. Over the past month and a half, I've managed to lower my pace by more than a minute/mile. I'm pretty sure it's just been a combination of dumb luck and losing 10 lbs.
So right now, I'm sitting at about a 9:10-9:15 pace for 3 miles, and 215 lbs. I'm setting a goal for myself that by the end of February I'd like to be at an 8:15 pace and 200 lbs. I think I can accomplish this without any speed work (outside of the huge hills in my usual routes) by building up my base mileage. I'm currently at ~10-11 mpw. I will be increasing my base mileage up to 25 mpw by the end of February. I currently run 4 days a week, I will be increasing this to 6 days/week by adding two easy recovery days of 1.5-2.5 miles each. My long run this week was 5 miles, I would like for it to be 9 miles by the end of February. At the end of February, assuming I have reached my goals, I will decide whether to go for 13.1 or 5K in the Knoxville Marathon.
