The Runner's thread

Anybody use a heart rate monitor when they run? I've been trying to go by the Maffetone method.

I don't, but I can pretty much tell you at any point where mine is within 10-15 beats.

I have a Polar HR monitor/pedometer/watch and it works great. Usually run on the greenways/sidewalks around town, but I'd love to start some train running.

I have a polar too. Mine is only a watch/stop watch/HR monitor. Battery has been dead forever. Need to get another one. It made running a little more fun, being able to watch how your HR does while you're running.

4.5 miles on treadmill. stupid rain. fought a calf cramp the whole time. week and a half till my 10 miler.

Found out that I have a high arch with little to no over pronation yesterday. Ended up buying a pair of Asics Cumulus 12s. I tried on 6 or 7 different pairs of shoes. They seemed to fit the best. Anybody else have a high arch? If so, do you use an insert?

Don't have a high arch. I've used inserts but don't like them for trail running. I turned my ankle more with them. I have read that from a physics standpoint the quickest way to weaken any arch is support the middle of it.

Yeah, she said the ideal sitiuation would be to find a shoe that feels good enough adn not to wear an insert but that some people ahve to ahve them. I'm gonna try these shoes for a few weeks. She said if I didn't like them to bring them back and we could try a different shoe. I loved the service there. They didn't try to push anything on me or put pressure on me to buy from there either.

I've always like fleet feet. I used to wear inserts when I ran on the road. I was a heel striker and they helped.

159 total.

You're such a slacker when it comes to math, BPV. Break out that handy dandy calculator/IV/Cath/iPhone

Finally ran again! 1.5 miles in my new vff komodos (first time running in them) and my calves are really tight. Hopefully will run again tommorow.

Great to be back at it
