I had a garmin 305 for year and it started giving me problems and then didn't work when I got to the start line for a half marathon. I went that day and bought a garmin vivo active. I like it a lot and it was a pretty good price. It is light and gets very good reception.

I have the Fenix 3 HR as I have it for military use as well. I've never had a problem before the last few days.

I did a factory reset. Seemed to work ok after that. I'll see tomorrow morning for sure.

So after a factory reset it seemed to work a little better. Though I did a mile in 2:45 apparently. It ended up about .5 miles (4.6) longer than the distance. This is after making sure the GPS was locked.

Anybody here ever suffer from piriformis syndrome?

I think I have a mild case of it in my right leg. I say mild because it sounds like extreme cases are as debilitating as sciatica. I drive a truck, so I sit for long periods at a time. Lately, I've been using a special cushion to relieve pressure on my tail bone (I've lost 130 pounds over the last couple of years and one casualty is that my ass is gone) but because the cushion is thick it puts a lot of pressure on the back of my right leg when I couldn't use cruise control. I've recently changed how I sit in the truck and the seat adjustment. It seems to be helping.

I have found a number of articles regarding stretches and exercises to strengthen the piriformis muscle, so resources are not an issue.

I've continued to run, but I'm not pushing very hard. It's sore for the first 1/2 mile then it almost completely goes away. It flares whenever I've sat for any length of time and then stand up, but once I start walking, it's fine.

That sounds painful. Fortunately, I've never experienced that. I've cut back on running since November and the past month and a half, I've been doing tons of core work and body strengthening exercises. I've gotten stronger, but fatter. Running is about to pick up again, even though I hate running in the cold. This sucks. I'm killing myself with these workouts, and I'll keep doing them,but I'm going to get back to my regular 20-ish miles per week

Alot of guys i know using rowing as a way to not gain weight when cutting miles. Seems to work pretty good

For those that ran at Disney, do you train any differently to make that 5am start time? Do you typically do your runs that early in the morning ?

What time you start doesn't affect your running (at least it shouldn't).

I guess I was thinking more nutritionally. It may still not matter.

If you have a 5am start, do you get up at like 3 to eat, or do you just load up right before you go to bed? Does it even matter?

I started running recreationally a few years ago. I've done a handful of 5ks and 4/5 milers, but I'm about to start to incorporate longer runs (so far my max is 8 miles). I'm a complete novice.

For a full i start carb loading about 3 days out. The problem disney creates is getting enough rest, because you have (or are supposed to be) on transport by 4 so we wake up early. I usually wake up and eat a bagel and pb around midnight, then i eat a half as soon as i wake up around 3, then nibble on one on the way there.

My suggestion if you are just starting out is run a couple of halfs. A full is a whole other beast. But Disney is a good place to start cause the give an extra hour, support is great and you can stop for pics, which gives a little break along the way.

Let's talk footwear.

I've run Asics, Brooks, Mizuno, and Saucony. At 46 I bought my 1st pair of Hokas. Damn ugly. Ran 4 today, and not convinced. All the absorption is in the heal and I couldn't discern much of a difference.

What's your favorite shoe, and why.

I run in Brooks Ravena with Super feet insoles. Great in short runs but i struggle with cushion a bit in full marathons. I think im going to try On. Thought about getting Hokas cause ive heard good things, but as i read about On they are growing on me. Ill let you know.

Brooks PureFlow.

Light, good fit, comfortable for miles.

Right meow I'm wearing Newton Gravity V's, On Cloudflyers, and Brooks PureGrit 4s for trail running. I like a bigger toebox, lightweight, minimal heel to toe offset and a smudge of stability. All three are perfect.

I used to be a big Brooks PureCadence supporter, but the last two models have gotten worse and worse.

I have 6 pairs of running shoes. I've read that it is good to have a variety since different shoes will subtly affect your running mechanics and engage your muscles differently. My oldest pair of New Balance Vazee is about to be retired. One of my newest pairs (Brooks Adrenaline 16) is comfortable and will be my main competition shoe this year. I have a brand new pair of Merrel's that are still in the box.

I will eventually get professionally fitted since I have no idea what some of the terminology is. I do know that I don't like minimal shoes.

I am just a little over a month out from my first race of 2017. Doing the Tobacco Road Half Marathon. After that I am doing a little St. Paddy's Day 8k and maybe a local 5k night run before my big race of the spring. I am doing the Flying Pig 3 way challenge which is a 5k and 10k on Satruday and followed by a half marathon on Sunday.

If the spring goes well I am going to have to sit down and come up with my first full marathon training plan for later part of the year. I really want to do the Memphis St. Jude Marathon.

What does everyone else have on tap for 2017 so far?
