The Runner's thread

Four miles on the fourth. Whole family went with this time. Wife and I switched out pushing our youngest in the stroller and my oldest rode his bike. Pretty proud of my five year old to ride his bike the whole way and not stop. It wasn't the fastest four miles ever but we managed a sub 9 minute mile pace.

3.5 last night with the whole family again. My oldest rode his bike the whole way again. I feel like that's pretty good for a five year old.

Last night's run also put me over 300 miles for the year. Over half way to my goal for the year. I'm a little behind but I am hoping some nicer weather and no major changes at work like I had in the month of June will help me get back on track or ahead.

3.01 miles! Took 31:27, but I had some tightness, but no real pain! First run since the calf tear. I'm on cloud nine.

4 miles last night. I did not feel so good after that. My wife and ran together and we ran about 5:45 so it was still pretty hot and that may have been some of the problem.

A few observations after a DNF @ my 50 mile attempt:

1. At 4AM, make sure to place drop bag in the right area. No supplies at the turn around point sucks. No ibuprofen, no socks, no change of shoes.

2. Pouring rain causes trails to get slippery. Twisting my knee 10 miles in sucks.

3. It's okay to DNF after 25 miles if you have been wading waist deep through water that was a dry trail 3 hours earlier.

4. No matter what I do, my mom will still be proud of me.

Even with a dnf, that's impressive

Three more miles today. Took the calf a lot longer to get going than the other day. Probably should've stretched more, but it seemed fine. I also ran at 2 pm in the hottest part of the day because I waited around watching the Wimbledon final but knew I was going fishing tonight. Recovery continues, slowly but surely.

Is the 50 miler something you would try again?

I'm already considering another in September along the Hennepin Canal. It's flat. Would be way easier than the one I just did, which had 5,000' of gain per 25 miles. The only problem I have with the Hennepin is that there's absolutely no retreat from the sun, so I'd have to carry sunblock the entire race. It would also get super boring.

What was the time for the winner of the race?

My longest run yet early Sunday morning - 9.12 in 1 hr 36 min

Knee is still holding up well since completing physical therapy in April
