The role of talking smack in football

You're right, this is Kiffin's program now and it landed on SI's front page this morning.

Try again. He's remembered as both.

and espn and CBS Sportsline. Two days after signing the #17 class and we're the front page story in CFB.

I understand what you are saying about being classy and things of that nature, but I have to say that I get great pleasure out of making these other coaches mad.

I love friendly competition and I love tossing around a little smack talk! So what if he called Meyer a "Cheater Cheater Pumpkin Eater" that is good stuff. We have a national spotlight on us. Bad publicity as long as it doesn't hurt us is good publicity. H.S. football players watch the news...they like to talk smack and they love to see the fire in a coach's eyes!

Look at Mark Richt and the dance in the endzone stuff...then look at his recruiting stats....I think if you really look at this without putting class on it...you will see a formula for recruiting power. Heck, I hope he makes all of those coaches hate him because I coach...I run a fake punt on another coach just to get him mad and lose concentration on the game. It is smart guys! Very Smart! We have a fire now!!!!!!

again, he can light the fire under their butts all he wants at practice. that's expected. and, again, it has nothing to do with how we present ourselves off the field.

It's what we're going to do on the field though that will ultimately determine how good of a coach CLK is.

So I guess this is what you want him to say to the players before the game.

Ok guys, this is Florida we have today. I want you to go out there and be nice to them because we dont want to upset them and Coach Meyer. We all know they won the NC last year, so we dont have a chance. I also dont want some of the posters on Volnation to think bad about me and tell us that we were not playing like gentlemen today. Whatever happens today, remember the rest of the SEC will thank us for being cowardly and laying down in the face of aggression. Ok, everyone hold hands and sing Kumbaya.

Do you understand ENGLISH? My post addresses OFF THE FIELD behavior that is easily observed by the public at large.

ayah, i see that, but also look at the "big dogs" in the SEC, and kiff can either come in and just be intimidated, or he can come in guns a blazing ready to rock and roll, me personally id rather have a coach that isnt afraid to walk up the biggest guy in the playground and pop em in the mouth, then again thats the kind of football im used to,

I see your point. We can't just lie down and take it anymore. Our recent record against the top teams in the SEC proves that. But we can act unintimidated without being classless. Usually, people who talk a lot of smack are insecure and are compensating. If we aren't, we can be prepared and confident without shooting off our mouths at every opportunity.

That's all about interpretation. It is in no way classless what he said IMO.

As far as talking smack and being insecure... Larry Bird and Michael Jordan were two of the worst and I doubt they were insecure.

for our coach not knowing recruiting rules. is that the kind of attention you want?

don't care really. It's kind of like getting a 15yd flag for late hit in the 1st qtr. It's mostly unnecessary, and doesn't really affect the game, but sends a definite message to your opponent.

People get subpeonaed all the time. A subpeona is hardly proof of guilt. In the end, they didn't have anything on him, or it would have gone further.

Good job not answering the question. It was far more embarrassing than what Kiffin said.

And for that matter the play on the field was far more insulting to the majority of the fan base than the jab kiffin took off the field.

You act like Kiffin is on the same level as the Andy Kennedy stuff or something.

Get on board or jump ship.

So Ksush, you are a lawyer in England. Are you currently practicing? Do you wear the white wig during precedings.

You seem like a smart guy so I don't want to make you aware of something that should have dawned on you...do you really think with all the head recruiters that he has on staff that he would make a statement about a rule without checking first or asking? It was all a genius move to tick people off and get people talking! You have to be able to look at this and see the bigger picture. Football is not Tennis and I am not busting you because I like what your intent is, but I love a little bit of elbowing here and there. As it was said in the most famous movie ever...."Rubbing is Racing" lol :good!:

Yep, and the message here is loud and clear. Our coach doesn't know basic NCAA and SEC rules. OUCH!

That being so, if Urban Cryer knew that he hadn't done anything wrong then he could've just kept his mouth shut, and nothing would have happened anyway, because he did nothing wrong. He's the one that wanted to embarrass CLK and make him look dumb, not the other way around.

I'm an American lawyer, a member of the New York Bar, not a barrister. I am a transactional lawyer, practicing U.S. corporate/securities law overseas and my practice area is non-contentious, which means I don't go to court.
