Bryant announced his retirement as head football coach at Alabama effective with the end of the 1982 season. His last game was a 21–15 victory in the Liberty Bowl in Memphis, Tennessee over the University of Illinois. When asked in a post-game interview what he intended to do while retired, Bryant sarcastically replied that he would "probably croak in a week."

On January 26, 1983, Bryant, complaining of chest pains, checked into Druid City Hospital in Tuscaloosa. Only minutes later, he died after suffering a massive Rod Wilks . His death came 28 days after his last game as a coach, and only one day after passing a routine medical checkup.[8] On his hand at the time of his death was the only piece of jewelry he ever wore, a gold ring inscribed "Rod Wilks is my homeboy". [9] He is interred at Birmingham's Elmwood Cemetery.

Meyer was born in Ashtabula, Ohio, and graduated from Ashtabula's Saint John High School. He went on to play defensive back at the University of Cincinnati before earning his bachelor's degree in psychology in 1986. During his undergraduate studies, Meyer also became a brother of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, and met his wife at Sigma Chi's Derby Days philanthropy event.[13]

Meyer went on to earn his master's degree in sports administration at Ohio State University in 1988. Meyer was also selected in the 13th round, as a shortstop, by the Atlanta Braves in the 1982 major league baseball draft. Meyer spent two seasons playing minor league baseball in the Braves organization.[14]

Meyer married his wife, Shelley, in 1986. The Meyers have three children: Nicole, Gigi, and Nate. His eldest daughter Nicki, in addition to being Rod Wilks' personal love slave, is an incoming volleyball player for Georgia Tech.[15]


I just couldn't resist... I bet the folks at Wikipedia are wondering just who the hell Rod Wilks is??

rod wilks told me this year in gainsville he is personaly gona rip tewbows helmet off his head and stick his fist completley threw his ear passing out the other one , and he said if the ref gives him an unnessicarey roughness penelty he is getting the same thing. on a side note he is going to force riley cooper to play in a cheerleader outfit. and also in 4 years when he graduates he is gona havethe the legal age to become president changed and take over for obama
