Not a blog about what is on the rock. The rock can stay, but the paint needs to stop.
To preface this statement I must say I am a stalwart for Tennessee football. A man, young in age, but as old a fan as the dirt on Rocky Top. Steeped in tradition from as far back as Beattie Feathers, and my blood has runneth orange for generations. However, at the end of the day a spade is still a spade...
The rock is hurting our program...I, like most Vol fans, venerate and revere traditions such as these but it is outdated and has served no purpose other than to denegrate our university for years. The rock has and always was meant to be a voice of the people, the students, the fans....but it has become an embarrassment. We are only asking for trouble when any idiot can come paint anything they want to represent to entirety of Knoxville, whether that sentiment reflects only a small faction or not. We don't need it anymore. This is what social media, hashtags, followers etc etc are for. Our SEC brethren literally now sit and wait for some ignorant mess to appear, show it, share it, and publicly humiliate us. And why do we do this to ourselves? Not to say I have agreed or disagreed with any recent statements painted upon our rock, but there are too many cooks in the kitchen, and it is dividing our university....that is only a microcosm of what is going on inside the administration, and we must wake up and realize that. This is my rant for the day, and I for one would love to see Pat Summitt and General Neyland's faces carved into that rock and be done with the paint forever!!!
