Giraffe Tongue Orchestra make live debut | Metal Insider

I thought this side group sounded interesting, Giraffe Tongue Orchestra. The band is William Duvall of Alice in Chains, Brent Hinds of Mastodon, Thomas Pridgen of The Mars Volta, and Ben Weinman of The Dillinger Escape Plan.

The link has video of 2 live performances. The audio isn't great though.

AIChains one of my favorites ever. Tool,Aic,Deftones, early Korn,Pantera, like some lighter stuff too such as soundgarden, peppers, incubus, etc.

Cant get into gutteral noises instead of vocals. Deep, great lyrics are still not going to come thru to me from some dude growling. To each their own...but i think there are some incredible musicians out there that i cant listen to bc their front man sucks balls. Joey is a great example...he is probably as good of a drummer as Danny from TOOL, but i cant get into their music because i cant listen to some dude grunt for an hour...anyway, enjoy this thread.

Love me some AIC! Their MTV Unplugged concert still gets constant rotation in my house!

My favorite

I love the stuff. AIC was just awesome...as talented as jerry cantrell is, they are not nearly as good without layne staley. Heroin takes all the greats...some fans i have talked with have never heard of Mad Season. That was a great solo project of Layne...album is called Above. The only song that ever made the radio was river of deceit, but i like the whole album. The title track is good, among others. Cheers. I would link the album but i dont know how.

Prophetic lyrics in a track called xray mind..."rich and grooowwwing siiiickeeer...sell the dead ones quicker..." wasnt long at all after that album before Layne OD'd. My favorite track on that album is probably the title track "above". "Artificial red" also talks about his addiction. "Is this the way ill spend my days? In recovery of a fatal disease?"...had never looked that album up on youtube. I didnt know they ever did live shows.

Listen to the whole thing. Not only is the 1:35 to 3:00 mark heavy as ****, it's also hilarious with how it relates to the world today.

This has everything I love..minus the grindcore.

I'm sure there's a great public restroom joke somewhere in the post above

Went to ProgPower in Atlanta this past Friday and Saturday. Scar Symmetry was already one of my favorites and I finally got to see them live. Devin Townsend was the Saturday headliner and was awesome. Other bands I hadn't heard before and came away impressed with: Haken, The Gentle Storm, Freedom Call, and Green Carnation.

Green Carnation was like the lighter side of these two bands if you can believe it or not:

IMO Ghost is simply one of the best bands out right now. Dont let the goofy image fool you! These guys can flat out play! I caught their live act a few months ago and they kicked ass!

Yep. I wasn't a fan at the beginning because of the cheesy look and what not but I heard Ritual on Sat Radio and was like..damn..this is good. They have put out solid material..catchy metalesque satan tinged rock.
