The Rock/Metal Thread

I got tickets to see Dance Gavin Dance at the Masquerade in Atlanta Wednesday night. It's their 10 year anniversary tour and they invited the 3 former lead singers bands to come jam too Slaves (Jonny Craig), A Lot Like Birds (Kurt Travis), and Strawberry Girls (Zachary Garren). The other band there has former Of Mice and Men singer Shayley Bourget (Dayshell). Should be an interesting time. I'm guessing each of the former singers will do at least a song maybe two with DGD. Jonny Craig may be one of the more successful singers of the whole metal/metalcore/post hardcore scene and he sings with a blues/R&B type of tone. I used to love him when he was with DGD and Emarosa back 5 years ago or so.

Sticking to my at least 1 concert every month/other month. This is way less "hardcore" than last concert. Still thinking about catching The Acacia Strain on Friday, so if I do that will make up the brutalness

Never owned a pair of skinny jeans 😂 I know you're kidding tho. Last concert my buddy wore a Vols shirt and we had some good convos (week after bama game in Birmingham).

If I go to the Acacia Strain concert do I get my metal card back?

Acacia Strain is a metal core band too. They have those ridiculous breakdowns. Metalcore really shouldn't be talked about in a rock/metal thread. I know there so many sub-genres, but metalcore is really it's own entity, and usually people really into metal aren't into metalcore.

Yes! Didn't mean to come off as a D! Metalcore has never really been my thing.

As close as I get:
Bury Your Dead - Year One (love this song)

I lean that way but then I have to remind myself guitars, drums, harsh vocals..gotta let it in..

It's like someone coming in here and talking about Cradle of Filth or Dimmu Borgir.

My issue is that most metalcore bands aren't influenced by metal and just the metalcore scene. There are bands like Slayer and Machine Head that were influenced by hardcore music and reflect that occasionally in their songs, but metalcore is mutated form of hardcore consisting of straight-edge poseurs.

Maybe I'm getting too old and just "don't get it."

Thats how I view a lot of metalcore bands. Some are legit, but most..meh.

It's cool if you don't get it haha. I'm not going to not post because you don't like my style of music. I know a lot of you guys are older or don't like the scene, etc. Whether it's metal or not is debatable I suppose. Same way you can argue rapcore is or isn't rap or hardcore and how anything with core at the end is or isn't hardcore, etc and if hardcore is metal, etc.

If we just posted true just straight metal, it would be a lot of reminiscing as there isn't too much of that left being made. I am wearing a Ghost shirt right now though 👍🏼

I'm more here posting experiences I'm having at subgenres (arguably) of metal rather than trying to pump up bands. I've seen real "metal" bands live. Same with rock. Shinedown (during their peak) was maybe the best pure show I've seen. Alternatively the most fun I had was at an Attila show. Completely different music. It is what it is. I like metalcore, hardcore, post hardcore, deathcore, etc but I also like metal (Ghost) , melodic death metal (Amon Amarth) even older stuff from Slayer to Sublime (rock), Zombie, ZZ Top, etc.

As far as most metalcore bands not drawing influence from metal, that's just silly.

Perfectly acceptable view point. Not all music is for everyone.

I just like things with drums, guitars, and good vocals (scream, sing, growl, etc.). If it sounds good I like it

Btw in all my concert searching I almost hit up a DWP show. They have a good unique sound. I mostly post on the go but I'll check the other songs out when I get home.

There were guys in their 30s-40s at the last show to see blessthefall. I was kind of surprised. You'd think the average age of a btf fan would be in the teens, but most people I saw had wristbands on (21+). There was also a 6 year old 😂 Music is music man, I don't discriminate. If I ever see any of you at a show, a beer is on me.

No worries bro, beer is on me.

Gonna be enjoying my VIP seats and back stage passes in February with At The Gates / Decapitated / The Haunted.

At The Gates..I'll be honest..never thought I would ever see them live after they broke up when I was in high school.

Heard this on the local rock radio today. Was impressed.

A band I discovered while living in Iceland in 2004..literally stumbled upon at a bar/concert venue in Reykjavik. Merry xmas

Sólstafir - Fjara

I remember first seeing her in a music video in he late '90's. That song, I just wanted to stab my ears.

Bjork of Solstafir? I assume Bjork.

I saw Solstafir at Grand Rokk in Iceland along with Amon Amarth back in 04.

:good!:

Thats the only bjork song I know..she was terrible. Never understood the hype.

she looked like every typical icelandic girl by the way..
