But it isn't. It is a University whose goal is to prepare these young men for their future. For most that will NOT be the NFL.
They have to perform off the field or they don't play.
They are role models for the youth who want to some day follow in their footsteps.
They can't walk around campus, around Knoxville, and not even in the state of Tennessee without someone knowing who they are. Their life is almost always on display.
They need men who will guide them not only on game day or on the practice field, but off the field as well.
Their lives and what they think should matter - more than any opinion of any fan should matter.
lol:
Oh...OK
Well, I guess that is how it is in Fantasy Land
CFB is a business and a very lucrative business at that
Idealism is nice, but realism soon breaks in.
When it comes down to it, the University looks at the bottom line. Is the AD bringing in money or is it not bringing in money?
I wish it was all about the players and the game, but its not. That stopped happening when Universities started getting money for T.V. contracts and paying coaches unrealistic amounts of money
You don't pay a coach 7 and 8 figure salaries to "mold young men for the future". You pay them that to win. Winning brings in the fans, merchandise sales, and profits from bowl games.
Don't think its about anything else
One of the times I am ashamed of being an Alumni. There will always be stupid and ignorant people in this world, especially on college campuses. The only good in this is that a "back against the wall" team will come out fighting to prove these idiots wrong.
No, but who wants to coach for fans that will treat a coach that has worked so hard for their school this badly. It's different to state that he is not the one on message boards but to paint it on the rock just makes us look bad.

You can support the players without supporting the coach, I don't think there's been one person here who hasn't said that they want to see the players do bad.
In fact you'll see most who want Jones to be fired so the players would get a coach worth a dang to actually develop them better and use them better on the field.
Everyone wants to see the players do well but when the coach is moron it's hard for that to happen.
Hamilton said the social media firestorm played into what happened to Fulmer and we had the same billionaire then as we have now. If the noise had no effect, then I don't think Support Butch, Inc. would be going to so much effort to try and calm the waters. You think our billionaire is paying attention to this?
I understand the "Bash CBJ" point of view. All I'm saying is a player said "quit", so as a Vol fan.
Why not quit?
Bashing Butch on social media shouldn't have anything to do with if he keeps his job.
If it does. Wow.
